Ukulele Stores

Do these establishments have ukuleles in stock? Any way you can find out what brands, etc.

Bananas and Magic flute do have them in stock - but just a few and pretty low end. My suggestions in the same area (SF and Marin) would be Schoenburgs in Tiburon at 106 Main Street, Tiburon, CA 94920. Phone: 415-789-0846.*http://www.om28.com. Great shop and people. Old and new Martin ukes, customs, etc. (Schoenburg's is one of only two authorized Moore Bettah dealers in the continental U.S.) And also Guitar Solo in San Francisco, carries Kamaka and Kanile'a. They are at 230 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107-1720 (415) 896-1922 and http://www.gspguitar.com

Thanks, Schoenberg and Guitar Solo have been added. Thanks much for the info.

I hope this isn't too massive a forum bump, but Decatur Alabama has a couple of stores that sell ukes, Railroad Bazaar and Emiron Music. I think there may be another one (A.B. Stephens) but i'm not sure.

I know this has been added but I just wanted to say this shop is amazing. I met the owner and he was really cool. He let me play almost anything he had in the store, and if you have seen his inventory he has some nice ukes in stock. Played a concert sceptre (his tenor had just sold), pineapple sunday, a couple of black label koaloha, nationals, kanileas..... he did have an ebony/spruce sceptre but it was not for sale and i didn't get to play it. He had tons of gutiars but i know little to nothing about them but I am sure they are nice.

If you are ever in the phoenix area you have to go to this shop.

Hey guys, can you let me know what brands of ukuleles they carry and approx. how many? This is just to give the consumer an idea as to what's available.

I'm not sure about Emiron or the Decatur Railroad Bazaar because when I went to both stores they had mostly run out of ukes. Railroad Bazaar in Decatur had some toy ukes and one laminate uke that was pretty good but I can't remember the brand name. Emiron had one Lanikai LU-21 left but I do know they'll put new strings on your uke for free (provided of course you pay for the strings), and they also will order pretty much anything you ask for if they have it in their catalogs.

Mostly Kala ukes......

Crossroads Music

Dan and Sara are the owners and they carry Kala, Makala, National, Bugsgear, Martin, Samick, and are working on carrying Pono for their major production lines.

They also carry Oceania ukes where are made in Ecuador from reclaimed hardwoods, and several local luthiers make ukes and are on the racks for sale. Recently a player consigned a Maui Music concert and a drop dead gorgeous Kamaka tenor.

The cool part is this is a small town store with some astounding stringed instruments and nice prices. They are also huge supporters of the Andy Mackie Foundation that gives instruments and provides lessons to all kids. All the local luthiers build and donate large volumes of instruments, and all of us who teach also donate hours to student lessons.

I happened upon this website for a store in Tempe, AZ. It looks amazing for a mainland shop.

Acoustic Vibes Music Inc
2070 E. Southern Ave.

http://www.acousticvibesmusic.com/index.php

The website has that they sell Collings, Kanile'a, Ko'olau, National, Pono, Koaloha, and some builders like Rick Turner, Maui Music and T's. Apparently they deal in high quality Acoustic Instruments. I know the ukes are. I have not been there yet but I plan on going the week after Labor day as I will be around Phoenix for work. If you want to hold off until I check it out thats cool, or maybe someone in AZ knows this store and can vouch for it.

Just for the record, this place definitely exists. I went in there a couple weeks ago and they have a large amount of high quality ukes; including some customs that he recieved on a trade-in. Jeff is the owner and he is a real nice guy. You can go in and pick his brain and play around on the ukes for as long as you'd like. He's a banjo player but he knows quite a bit about acoustic instruments in general.

Great find indeed. And the only place in Phoenix that sells ukes, so it makes things THAT much better! :stop: He only sells high end ukes though so dont bother going if you plan on spending any less than $700ish.
:shaka:

This might serve as a sort of traveler's guide if enough people post things on it.

Simple task: give fellow UU members information on Ukulele stores in different cities.

As for me

I live in the El Segundo/Manhattan Beach area.

In El Segundo there's Kahanamoku's Swimboat (On Standard and Grand across the street from Cold Stones) If you go inside, tell the owner Mark that Daniel sent you.

Other than that the only other uke store I've been in is Dietez Bros
240 S. Sepulveda
Manhattan Beach CA, 90266
310-379-6799

it has a bigger selection but is a bit more pricey. but their 40% off sale is killer.

so I ask all of you, whether you live in Hawaii or Ohio, Alabama or Alaska, to let everyone know where YOU buy YOUR ukes.

shakalohana!
That is awesome! My brother lives in El Segundo. I guess I will have to save up extra money next time I visit him so I can have a reason to check out the store.

They have Fenders, Lanikai's, I think I saw a Kala or 2, and an Oscar Schmidt. I think there were more but I can't remember... They also were all strung with Aquila's as well! the staff is knowledgable and very accomidating :)

I'm thinking we need a European expansion to the list...

Can do! I can edit the list and add the countries where the establishments are located. Along with the usual info, please list the manufacturer brands they carry. Also any other tidbits of useful info that can be noted. It would be great to have feedback from members of other countries (Italy, Spain, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Belgium, Netherlands, etc.). The Far East and Australia should also be represented.
