Hi all,

I wanted to know if anyone has any experience with the line 6 micro spyder amp. I was considering the Vox DA5 but saw this for the same price at Guitar Center.. Tried to do some research but cant really find much.. So im turning to you all. Got the Mi-Si installed and currently using a Vox DA5 amp I borrowed till I buy my own... I was already set on buying a DA5 but saw this and wanted to know if I should even consider it..

I do not recommend the Line6 Micro:

Of the many battery powered amps I own/use, the Line6 had the least desireable tone. Search the web for the Vox DA5 in websites like Musicians Friend and check out the price for different colors. Sometimes the web will have lower prices on other colors. Print that page out and bring it into a big chain, such as Guitar Center or Best Buy. They both have price matching policies. The Vox DA5 has a clear volume and tonal advantage over the Line6Micro. Ric

Elderly Instruments are selling the pink model for $40 less than the others.

Thanks Ricdoug. Thats exactly what Im looking for.. I guess I'll be getting my own DA5 tomorrow then...

Eh.. Im not a pink kinda of guy but thanks Sambient for the link.. Its $139 at GC and I have a 10% off coupon..

Print the Elderly ad anyway and take it in to Guitar Center (they only carry black in their stores). Use it as a bargaining tool. If they don't budge more than $14 bucks (the 10% coupon discount), then break out the 10% coupon. They might match it on one of the black ones they have in stock. Ric

It doesn't have to stay pink.
I don't care for that shade either, but I just look at it as an excuse for customization.
And yeah, with the suggestion of printing out an ad that had been made, I figured the $99 doesn't hurt.

True that, Sambient. The Tolex covering is easy to dye and also easy to remove. BUT, sometimes I hust wanna' get it now instead of waiting. Eagerly awaiting Generem's report on his new AAS (Amp Aquisition Syndrome)! Ric

You might want to check out the Roland Micro cube also. I haven't played my uke through it yet cause it needs batteries. I do prefer it over the DA5 for guitar, they sound very similar but the controls on the Roland make more sense to me and are thus easier to use. I think Roland, Vox, Korg are all the same company, Fender. The DA5 does have an xlr mic input which makes it more versatile.

The Vox DA5 is mafactured in Vietnam. Roland, Japan and China. Korg and Toneworks are part of the same parent company.

My 3 Vox DA5's have a 1/4" phone jack microphone input. To use it with an XLR connector, I use a "Lil' Imp" impedence matching transformer.

I also have two of the Roland Microcubes. They are nice amps for the ukulele. The DA5 allows you to adjust the effects parameters, has more power and a larger speaker. Ric

So I went to GC with my coupon and a print out on hand.. they said that like for like. If I can find the black da5 for lower, they will honor it. So I was about to pick up the DA5 to pay and the DA10 cought my eyes.. When I looked at the price tag, it was.. $99.00.. WHOA. $40 cheaper than the DA5. When I asked the sales guy, he said that it was their last one and just wants to get rid of it.. I couldnt pass it up so I took it. $97 out the door with the 10% coupon..

Looked exactly as the DA5 except its a 10W with 2 6.5 speakers.. Double the power for alot less money.. I think I got a good deal
:D

Sounds like you got a GREAT deal! I love those Voxes.

Call the police! Generem's a THIEF!!! That's a GREAT deal. The DA10 does very well with a guitar, too. It's 5 watts on battery power and 10 watts plugged in. You'll be able to do gigs with that puppy. I'm upset with you (you beat me to it!).

The effects and adjustable parameters of the DA series make them another valuable tool for shaping your tone:

AUTO WAH
This models an auto-wah; a device that creates an
automatic “wah” effect that varies with your picking
dynamics (i.e., how hard or soft you hit the strings).
EDIT 1 “SENS” Adjusts the sensitivity of the effect
in response to the volume of your
guitar.
EDIT 2 “ATTACK” Adjusts the response speed of the
auto wah.
EDIT 3 “POLARITY” Adjusts the direction in which the
effect operates.

COMP
Want to play a clean passage that needs to be nice,
smooth, and even? Need a bit more sustain on a
lead line? Then look no further; COMP is the effect
for you. It’s modeled on a compressor pedal that is
hugely popular due to the percussive clean sound it
can produce—making it perfect for ’80s and ’90s pop
and funk rhythm work. It can also add a singing,
mellow, sustain to lead lines - clean or dirty.
EDIT 1 “SENS” Adjusts the sensitivity of the compressor.
Turning the knob toward the
right will increase the amount of
compression and sustain. If you turn
the knob all the way to the left, the
effect is OFF.
EDIT 2 “ATTACK” Adjusts the strength of the attack.
HINT: In the COMP+PHASER and COMP+CHORUS combination
effects, the ATTACK parameter is already set
to the optimal value.

PHASER
A model of a much respected and popular analogue
phaser, housed in a banana yellow box!
TAP “SPEED” Sets the modulation speed in a
range of 0.1...10 [Hz].
EDIT 2 “SPEED” This lets you use the knob to make
fine adjustments to the parameter.
EDIT 3 “RESONANCE” Adjusts the amount of resonance.

CHORUS
This models the rich sound of an analog chorus unit.
TAP “SPEED” Sets the modulation speed in a
range of 0.1...10 [Hz].
EDIT 2 “SPEED” This lets you use the knob to make
fine adjustments to the parameter.
EDIT 3 “MIX” Adjusts the mix amount of the effect.
HINT: In the CHORUS+DELAY combination effect, the
SPEED parameter is already set to the optimal value.

FLANGER
A model of a truly classic flanger that “unchained” a
highly influential modern guitarist who many hail as
the “godfather of two-handed tapping.”

TREMOLO
This effect is based on the highly acclaimed tremolo
circuit found in some guitar amps.
TAP “SPEED” Sets the tremolo speed in a range
of 2.5...10 [Hz].
EDIT 2 “SPEED” This lets you use the knob to make
fine adjustments to the parameter.
EDIT 3 “DEPTH” Adjusts the tremolo depth.

ROTARY
This models a rotary speaker.
TAP “SPEED” Sets the rotational speed of the
speaker in a range of 0.8...10 [Hz].
EDIT 2 “SPEED” This lets you use the knob to make
fine adjustments to the parameter.
EDIT 3 “SENS” By adjusting this parameter you can
make the rotational speed change
automatically in response to the volume
of your guitar. If you use this
function, set the SPEED to a slow
setting.

DELAY
This is a model of one of the most respected analogue
tape echo machines ever made. In the original
the “echo” is produced by a playback head and the
exact “delay time” is set by varying the motor speed.
Many professionals prefer these “lo-fi” units because
of the warm, dark echoes they produce
TAP “TIME” Sets the delay time in a range of
1...1,486 [ms].
EDIT 1 “MIX” Adjust the mix amount of the delayed
sound.
EDIT 2 “TIME” This lets you use the knob to make
fine adjustments to the parameter.
EDIT 3 “FEEDBACK” Adjusts the amount of feedback.
HINT: In the CHORUS+DELAY combination effect, the
FEEDBACK parameter is already set to the optimal
value.
WARNING! If you crank up the FEEDBACK too much, an
uncontrollable, cascading “runaway” of echoes will occur.
So, use your ears when setting this!

REVERB
A model of the most popular spring reverb system
used in guitar amps.
TAP “TIME” Sets the reverb time in a range of
0.8...8 [seconds].
EDIT 1 “MIX” Adjusts the mix amount of the reverb.
EDIT 2 “TIME” This lets you use the knob to adjust
the reverb time.
EDIT 3 “HI DAMP” Adjusts the dampening of the highfrequency
range.
HINT: In combination effects, the TIME and HI DAMP parameters
are already set to optimal values.
