Hi All

So I've been having alot of fun with the new pickup and amp so now I want to try and record thru the amp for both uke and vocals. After a bit of research, I think I want to get the Shure PG58. Does anybody else have any other recommendation in the price range?

Its gonna be for vocals mainly?

I wanted to stay around $50 - $80.

Thanks in advance

Get a Carvin M50, Generem:

http://www.carvinguitars.com/products/single.php?product=M50

It comes with a 20' XLR cable and is very rugged:

You will also need an impedence matching transformer:

So it will work with your Vox DA20. A microphone stand will be needed, too. AAn adjustable boom stand is very adaptable to stage layouts:

Take in mind that this is my recommend setup, but it's double you're initial shopping budget. This is gear I have owned/used and is road tested. I will search for other less expensive gear and explain the pro's/con's. Ric

Closer to your stated budget range would be this Sennheizer package:

The microphone is high quality. In most of these "kits", the stands and cables are the weak links. If you don't constantly torque the setscrews too tightly and step on/stretch the cables constantly, everything will work just fine. You will also need:

This setup runs a little over your stated budget. Next, I'll try to stay within your stated budget. Ric

Within your budget, buy two of these:

It's a rugged metal constructed microphone with good feedback rejection that comes with a stand and a cable. You won't need impedance matching transformers, as these are high impedance microphones that have a 1/4" plug at the end of the cable that plugs directly into your DA10. These microphone setups are popular with karaoke machines.

The microphone is good quality. In most of these "kits", the stands and cables are the weak links. If you don't constantly torque the setscrews too tightly and step on/stretch the cables constantly, everything will work just fine. Ric

With the Sennheiser pack you get a much better and clearer microphone than the Nady though. Out of the suggestions, I think the Senneheiser pack at $79 is a steal.

On Stage stands in that pack are fine; many musicians in our town use these.

I personally prefer the Sennheisers over the Shures, even in the budget range.

Wow. Thanks Ric.. I think Im gonna stop posting these stuff and just email you directly.. Thank you very much for all the different options...

Gaby.. Thanks for the feed back also.. I was looking at the Sennheiser package just because its right at my budget....

Shure PG58 is a great mic. I lost my SM58 and replaced it with a PG58 due to being broke! I use it as my live vocal mic, and for vocals when recording. :)

If I was buying now I'd either buy the PG58 again, or consider the Behringer mics. I've tried them and they're great. Unbeatable value, for decent dynamic mics at a very good price, IMHO.

As usual, value packs are not carried in stock at Guitar Center, Generem. The good news is that their E-Series microphone packages are available for in-store ordering.

If you print out a couple of these pages and bring them into your local Guitar Center, they will usually build you a similar package. Especially an name brand gear like Sennheizer. That way you won't have to wait for the order. Don't forget the impedance matching transformer (required to be compatible with your Vox DA10 amp):

My local Guitar Center carries an impedence matching transformer, from a different manufacturer like Audio Technica/Panasonic, in stock. From the Lil Imp printout, they'll know what you're looking for. Ric

over on zz sounds you can review all kinds of mikes in your budget and see which suits you best. shure are always fine, as are the behringers, for a bargain i would go for the marshall mxl 2006 condenser it consistently gets the 'best bang for the buck ' awards and it has a nice warm tone.

you don't need a pre amp cos for hte same money you can get a mixer with one built in and with phantom power, like a behringher eurotrack ub802 they are small and cheap and do a good job, with the advantage that you can record multiple instruments and have more control going in.

you do need a stand tho,you can get them cheap. , and make sure you get good cables, preferably with flexible connectors as it is ALWAYS the connectors that break. i use planet waves cables for my mics.
