i had a laminate Hilo that was a good beginner uke for me until my buddy accidentally stepped on it! Ive been playing the uke casually over a year now so i am looking to buy a better one, my price range is 200$ max. any suggestions for the best bargain? also ive always stuck with soprano

Mainland Mainland Mainland!!

You can get a choice of several with 200 dollars to spend. All solid - all have a quality and tone that belies their price point.

It's not clear from your post whether you want to replace your old ukulele with another laminate or "graduate" to a solid wood ukulele.

If you want to get another laminate, Musicguymic (aka MGM), an eBay seller who's also a UU member, sells a lot of different Kala laminates at his eBay store (any listing that does not say "solid [wood type]" is likely to be a laminate).

You can contact MGM through UU or through his eBay store. He's a great guy and he can give you a better sense of the choices in your price range.

If you want a solid wood ukulele, you can get a Mainland solid mahogany soprano for $189+.

Everyone has great things to say about Mainland's owner, Mike, who is also UU member Hoosierhiver.

Or you could get a Kala solid mahogany soprano for $190+.

People have said lots of nice things about both brands of ukulele. I have a Kala mahogany concert and a Kala acacia tenor, and I like them both. With all the recent talk about Mainland, I'm now very tempted to get a Mainland as a "companion" ukulele to the two I have.

There are a lot of recent threads started by people asking about ukuleles in your price range, so you should also look through those threads to get some additional opinions about these and other ukuleles in the $200 price range. Have fun with your search, and good luck!

Yes, you should....make that MUST check out musicguymic (MGM) on ebay. He will set you up real good!!

I've got to agree MGM is the best! I've bought 3 ukes from him and all arrived perfectly set up. He even called me to help with some questions I had emailed to him.
