i need to buy/build a uke that can play quiet with the option to plug it into something that way i can hear it. headset or little amp or something like that. it needs to be able to travel with me. i'm deploying soon and i want to keep practicing without bugging the rest of the crew members. does anyone know if there is a kit or a website from where i can get these parts?
i've seen the tin can ukes, and as cool as i think they are they' cost efective but way too loud. the electric solids are wayy to pricey.
any help is appreciated...

Here's a possible solution, Raf. Use the neck, fretboard and tuners from this kit:

...and add a pickup, using these instructions:

If he just needs the neck and tuners, he could get them from Mainland.

Sounds like you havea better solution with higher quality parts, since he does not need the body. Raf would then go to a lumber store (Home Depot, Lowes, ETC...) and get a piece of solid wood to cut out for the body. Here's theinstructions for the Grizzly kit:

Thanks for the replies folks! those should spark my imagination to come up with something...
that ELEUKE is suppa sexy man! id love to have one of those but santa says maybe next year...lol so sadly as the cheapest thing to try will be stuffing the hole with maybe some matting and i have an old westuit that i dont use anymore to cover up the hole to try to mute it. thanks again for the help.
