hello I found a board of wood with the dimensions 76x22x2.5 cm of what he thinks is merbau

I've attached some pictures of the wood could anyone tell me if It could be used to make a uke out of. or at least to practice bending sides.

a friend of mine attends a school of furniture making and has access to loads of hardware so I was wondering if this wood could be sawn into useable pieces for a uke

thanks in advance, Fabian

What we call Kwila in Australia looks nothing like that and it's very heavy and hard, so I strike that off the list. I've only ever seen merbau and not Intsia bijuga in the wood so to speak and your sample looks very similar to that. Though with how local names change we might not be talking about the same wood.

I can't see any reason why you couldn't build a uke out of it. Have fun and go for it.

it used to be a step from some stairs. so there are some holes where it was slot into place. he's a picture of one of those damaged slots. so you can see the color of the wood its self
