Tuning and Chord Issue

I purchased a Mitchell Tenor Uke and I've tuned it to CGEA... I think it's called 'C' tuning, but for some reason every chord sounds nasty. The Uke seems to be in tune when I go string-by-string in my electic tuner. Any help much appreciated. Thanks!

What type of tuner are you using? Is it a chromatic tuner? Is it made for all instruments or just guitars?
