I think these old nintendo songs sound great on a the uke, with it's intrinsic plinky-plonkiness. And they're really fun to bust out, no one expects them. But while the original Super Mario Bros 1 theme has gotten a lot of love, I'd like to see some Mario 2, and even 3, ukulele versions! I've seen a few covers on YouTube, but very few, and after looking high and low, no tabs specifically for the uke (though there are a number of guitar versions at gametabs.net). Anyway, the point of this is that I modified one of them a bit (http://www.gametabs.net/nes/super-mario-brothers-2/overworld) and I wanted to share it and see if people have any ideas for improving it.

1) Any suggestions for harmonies/chords? As it is, this is just the melody alone. And although the original tune is very simple, there are probably places where multiple notes would sound better.

2) Ideas for how to do the bits I've marked as "TWILL" -- (if you listen to the song you'll know what this means). The best I've come up with is sort of muting the outside strings and attempting to vibrate my wrist. I do not vibrate well.

UPDATE (9/5/2011): Revised tab. I've been playing it this way since I got a handle on it (it's easier to have certain notes on certain strings etc.), and I noted a couple places where bends and hammer-ons sound good. Could still stand to have some paired notes and harmonies: this is still simply the primary melody.

top, i'll work on this because i'm excited to see this.

Cool! Since I posted this back in March I have gotten fairly proficient with essentially what I have written up here -- so it is possible to play in its current form and sounds pretty good. In a few instances (Especially part 3) I changed certain bits to make them a little easier to play, and I should update this shortly, but it's basically the same. There is a note on the second line of Part 2b that I have marked as "-1" because as written it's too low for the uke, but it actually sounds fine to just play the 0 on the C-string.

That said, it could probably be improved with some paired notes and harmonies, I'm just not as good with figuring those out.
