i get this question a lot when i'm walking around with my uke. "can you play that?"

i usually respond with a funky variation of the chords used to play the Strokes "Someday" :

2100 - 2102 - 2224 - 2222 - 2224 - 2222 - 2102 - 2100
__1____3_____1_____3_____1____3______1_____3___< these numbers refer to the corresponding duration the chord above it is played

gets 'em every time

what's your favorite, good sounding ukulele chord progression...

*** besides g c f am :)

How about:

C E7 F Fm C G7 C G7 C
_3__3__3__3__3__3__1__1__1

Played fast and punchy, I can almost fool people into thinking that I know what I'm doing. :D

I usually play a hawaiian turnaround. To get them into the character. They go, "ohh that sounds like the old cartoons".

F - F7 - Bb - Bbm - D7 - G7 -C - E7 - Am - D7 - G7 - C7 - F - C7 - F

about 1 or 2 strums each.

I play "Ain't She Sweet" - and I'll even admit that I don't know what half the chords are, it's one I learned from watching someone else play. But I can do it from memory and it makes me look like I know what I'm doing :)

Abmaj7 / Eb13b5b9 / Abm9+7 / Fmaj7#5 / Bbm7-5sus4 / Eb13b5b9 / Abmaj7 end with Bb Phrygian scale run....

If you believe this I also have some swamp land in Florida for sale....

At Mainland last week, I played "Should I stay or should I go" on their banjo uke (and it sounded like heaven! *grin*) which is usually enough to make people think I know what I'm doing...

DDDGGGGD x2 GGGFFFFG DDDGGGGD AAAAAAAA DDDGGGGD

If that doesn't work, I'll go into a song I'm working on (and WILL get down if it kills me) which has some interesting stuff going from D to Dm and C9 to Cm.

This is one I like to do for a quick "demo". It's from my original "I'm Just Me", and I think it has sort of a 1920's feel to it. I slide the 3230 to the 5450, makes it feel like I know what I'm doing :).

F(2010) A7#5(0110) Dm(2210) Adim?(2320)-(2323) (Bb6maj7?)3230 (?)5450 3230 3533 3443

(?)5450 = c6. btw,
I really like this one!

Thanks, I just realized the way I actually play it is to go back to the F after the 5450 C6, i.e.,

F(2010) A7#5(0110) Dm(2210) Adim?(2320)-(2323) (Bb6maj7?)3230 (C6)5450 F (2010) C7sus4(3533) C7#5(3443)

But, hey, whatever works :).

How's this: GCEA Tuning-- strum each chord twice

Am7 (0000) Bbdim (0101) G7 (0212) G (0232) Am7 (0000) Bbdim (0101) G7 (0212) G (0232)

C (0003) E7 (1202) A (2100) A (2100) D7 (2020) G7 (0212) C (0003) G7 (0212) C (0003)

And I sat here, with drool leaking from the corner of my mouth, thinking, "What the heck are they talking about?????"

I just play a 12 bar blues in A with a turnaround, something tin pan alley-ish, and something from John Prine, then usually say something like, "Yeah, you're right - I can't play this thing".

I was sitting in O'Hare Airport on May 31, wearing an Aloha Shirt, and playing the Fluke while awaiting my flight to Albany, and a couple of folks asked if I had been to Hawai'i. When I told them no, not recently, I'd just come from Madison, Wisconsin, I could swear I heard someone say "Sure don't sound like cheese..."

I still don't know if that was a compliment or not.

i get this question a lot when i'm walking around with my uke. "can you play that?"

I just answer, "no, but it's easier than carrying around a tuba." Then I hand them their sign... LOL

I like the chord progression: G, B, C, Cm. This is the chord progression to Creep by Radiohead, which is one of the only songs I can sing decently I think haha. But my favorite song to jam on the uke? Well that's a different story lol!
