I thought you might have dropped by Northwest Timber in Jefferson. They have an awful lot of myrtle, cedar and maple.

I've heard of local Aussie luthiers keeping an eye out in 'antique/junk shops' or even yard sales for older furniture pieces (cheap) that they can salvage good authentic timber from - even bed heads as well as cupboards etc
Seems they've made some good instruments from them

This is one piece that I got but I have to say its the most figured I have seen from my local guy, There is some close but this is about the best I have seen. I am not sure how to post pics so here is a link,

That is so out there I'd only use it for my drop top electric ukulele. I'd favour the lovely fiddleback you get with myrtle and those black streaks..

We did some digging to find these pieces Pete. It should yield quit a few ukes
