I saw a Young Adult title while hanging around Goodreads last week: "Iris's Ukulele," by Kathy Taylor. So far, looks like it's only been published in New Zealand. I can't seem to find it anywhere - unless I want to pay about $ 30 (US) or more to have a copy shipped from Australia, through ABE books.

I don't see it on amazon or amazon.uk

I even checked Interlibrary Loan, but no libraries in the USA seem to have it.

Well there's Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli. This is a wonderful young adult novel. The main character is a sophomore in high school. She is an eccentric non-conformist and plays her ukulele during lunch every day.
