Hey thanks Seeso. That is a great list and it took me some time to go through it. I tried to take it all on board and got a few tips from the site. Thanks again.

I think it best to keep your investment low when starting out, should you lose interest along the way. I'm new to Ukulele, so my initial investments have been on the low-end. Playable is my prime concern. I've purchased several Ukes recently, and I've yet to be disappointed. If I do progress to the point where I feel it justified to spend hundreds of dollars on a quality instrument, then it will be worth it.

But one must take care to spend just enough to go past the toys and into playable instruments. For example, if the intonation is so bad that all the cords sound terrible... will that player continue? Having just started ukulele myself and buying 4 of them in rapid succession (within a month), I can say the best ukulele for a beginner is a soprano at around the $100 mark (in 2020). (Oh, and do not buy one with pre-amp because then you are not getting a $100 ukulele).

Thanks for that list, it is very complete and will help guide me in my beginnings with this marvel of instrument

Thanks for the great links, but could you please fix them? I'm guessing here, but it seems the forum software must have changed sometime and the links to the forum posts are all broken.

The forum is in maintenance mode and essentially unmoderated now. It was announced to be closed and moved to discord over a year ago, but left up at users' requests. I wouldn't expect these links to be edited.

See: https://forum.ukuleleunderground.com/showthread.php?144414-Please-move-to-our-new-Discord-Server
and: https://forum.ukuleleunderground.com/showthread.php?144415-Welcome-back-UU

That said, you can fix them yourself by going to the link and then rewriting it to put forum. at the front rather than at a sublevel.

Change this: http://www.ukuleleunderground.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11218
To this: https://forum.ukuleleunderground.com/showthread.php?t=11218

That said, threads from 10 years ago are wildly out of date. You're probably better off asking anew rather than digging up the fossils.

I wonder if it would be a good idea to unpin this thread, since most of the links are broken.
