Season 40 of the Ukulele - It's only Rock 'n' Roll

I had a really bad day so this is what came out of it. Apparently, earth angel is a rock song? At any rate, I decided to strip it as far as it could be stripped. No uke in sight, so this is a bonus entry all the way.

OOOOOOooooooohhh I like this one woohoo great job Austin1

Thanks ukaloonie

Many thanks. I did do that but it was after I just pasted the address so maybe that mucked it up.
Where in Canada?
We spent a year there in 1995 and loved in. We were based in Kamloops BC but drove right around the country with only province not visited being Newfoundland.
Again thanks for your help,
Briz

Really a fun rendition to watch.

Ok,
Not exactly sure how to go about this but this is my entry for Season 40 of Ukulele - Rock and Roll Competition.
Be Bop a Lula by Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps. Top ten USA and top 20 UK in 1956. Sold more than 2 million copies.
Done on my Tom pocket.
My wife did say I was going crazy when she saw me videoing this.
I'll just try pasting the address for the YouTube clip first to see how that goes.
Edited my post and it worked a treat - Thanks ukuloonie

Prizes:
1st prize: George Formby Songbook (23 George Formby songs with words, music and ukulele chord diagrams)

2nd Prize TWO George Formby Songbooks??? ;)

Loved your part of it but would get a new back up singer.
Romulus is trying to steal the act.

I think his upstaging has been dealt with, if 0:35 is accurate ;)

Eugene & Rooster.jpg

Photo too small to read. It says. "Romulus is now known as Dinner" :)

Great version (as always) Eugene!

This link will tell you Tina ;)

Great version of that song Tina. I look forward to your entries each Season. But couldn't you have done it using a Baritone and made it "official"?

PS I'd never heard of "The Penguins", anyone else?

If only I owned a baritone!

I've heard of the penguins, there was a documentary about them marching. I never saw it, but it made my sister cry.

Great start. Some real R 'n' R classics. The period coincided with my school days. My parents hated R 'n' R so I used to go and sit in the Kitchen and listen to Radio Luxembourg (the only commercial station available in the UK at that time and reception was iffy at the best of times)

Am on a Layover in New York so am sure the hotel is wondering what the heck
with the music coming from this room. hahahahahaha
What is the mystery song --- 1950's -60's early Rock
One of the First Extremely Controversial Rock N Roll
greats. Give you a hint a cousin of a well known preacher...

But here it is a quick channeling of Jerry Lee Lewis as you
just can't this season without Great Balls of Fire.

Just loved it. The heavy reverb - so typical of the time.

Really nicely done. The simple guitar accompaniment was just right. I saw the comment about a baritone - have you a tenor? that would have been almost as good.

Thanks Geoff for hosting another fun week! Here's Richie Cunningham's theme song :p

Another R 'n' R classic in typical EE style. I remember the Fats Domino version with its thrumming piano. Your uke captured a bit of that. Excellent. I get the impression you were not too happy with the backing singer and are intending to sack him. :rulez:

My kids used to watch Happy Days so I saw a fair bit. About the same time there was a band here in the UK called Showaddywaddy who specialised in reviving 50s songs. I remember wandering round the classroom watching the kids doing some maths and singing "The Great Pretender" under my breath (as I thought) when I heard one kid say to another in a surprised tone "Hey sir knows The Great Pretender!". Little did they know! My wife and I had a bit of a laugh about it when I told her

This will be another great one, Geoff.

Question: If I go instrumental, can I multi track to do chords + lead for the whole tune?

cheers,
peewee

Yes, that'll be OK. As long as one instrument is a uke, though I get the impression you are thinking both being uke which is even better.

Great version. That dinky little uke sounds really good and loved your instrumental break. Definitely worth a bonus point.

I remember, in the film "The Girl Can't Help It", Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps were filmed through an open window singing this in a rehearsal studio and part way through they tipped their heads back so the blue denim hats they were wearing came off.

Woohoo Thanks Tootler
I have added these links to the big playlist for all to see
Thankyou for doing this so quickly
