"Terrapin" by Syd Barrett has a a nice, slow chord progression that's easy to get a handle on.

If the 'friend' you're talking about is female, it's hard to go wrong with the Ramones's "Oh Oh, I Love Her So"

My personal recommendation, though, would be a song which propriety prevents me from naming directly on this forum, but which can be found at

You'll hopefully forgive me if I've read to much into your post or if I am being too blunt, but the phrasing of your query seems to be implying that your intention is to confess your romantic feelings to a gentleman or lady of your acquaintance (quite possibly the "Maria" whom you mentioned naming your ukulele after) whom you are not yet in a relationship with, not by agressively blurting out said feelings, but by subtly raising them as a topic through your music. If this is indeed the case, the song I have linked to suits your purpose for a number of reasons:
1. It is quite humorous, as you requested; this should make it less awkward for the object of your attentions to hear.
2. It broaches the subject of romance quite delicately: while the comedic lyrics grab the listener's attention, the true topic of the song ("I dream about an island in the Caribbean/
Holding hands with you beside the sea") is inserted almost subliminally.
3. You can make it interactive by addressing the questions contained in the second verse to the person you're performing for. Simply keep playing whatever chord you're on until he or she answers!
If this song interests you, I have worked out the chords to it and I would be happy to send them to you through a PM, or some other such means. It's really not that tough if you play it right.
I wish you good fortune in all your endeavors!
