Fewer "adult" banner ads

All these banner ads for "cougars" and single men or women looking to hook up for affairs - is that the proper image for the ukulele community? They're pretty trashy - not pornographic, but of questionable taste and morality. Maybe you ought to filter what sort of ads you want to host.

I've been wondering where all my cougar banners went. Now I know !

I thought that Google ads are a result of what websites YOU frequent, not what UU chooses to host. Different people will see different ads based on their location and browsing history. Or you may sign up for UU VIP and not see any ads at all.

I thought that at first too until i stated setting the dating site ads.
I get a lot of ads for camping and hiking stuff and music gear. I use my phone, school lap top, and school iPad i know the school stuff is monitored and if someone used it to go to inappropriate sites they would lose their job.

What i find funny is that UU was at risk top lose the income from these ads over a finger injury.

YOU COULD TRY CLEARING your browsers history, cookies and cache and see if that changes anything.

Baby clothes and a German Health Insurance Company's Fitness App.

Google also thinks I'm a young German female who is into Productivity Apps and Computers, so go figure.

I don't get any of those ads! So thats what I am missing
is it? I use Firefox as my browser, with two addons called
'AdBlock Plus' and 'No Popups' which integrate into the
browser itself, and consequently,no pop ups of any kind!

I get ukulele banners and, as of today, Citrix office conferencing and business website hosting. I was using Citrix to link to my office computer while working from home this morning.

I use the AdBlock browser extension, so never even noticed that UU had ads. Guess I should disable that for this site.

I wouldn't pay it any mind. Google's reputation is greatly oversold. The company doesn't know half what it lets on, and the other half is mostly manure.

I run half a dozen domains whose email is through googlemail, have a google+, linkedin, facecrook, even an old myspace account. I should be closely tracked, eh? Today while I was in googlemail as an admin I clicked on the "What google knows about me" button. Didn't know squat, only about a dozen references, all geographic references were wrong, only a few with even similar names and all those were wrong. No mention of ukulele or photography, how could that be missed?

Google is just throwing ads at you at random. If you want to control ads go back through my posts. I won't repeat the post because I see no reason to dump on UU.

The All-Seeing Eye knows where your computer has been............

I tried the forum on Chrome which I hardly ever use and just got NBA playoff and a couple other generic banners. Try clearing out the browser (or joint VIP!)

Please keep in mind that the UU forums rely on ad revenue as our primary means of support. Using ad blockers of any kind dwindles the amount somewhat.

I have a few years of experience working with ad networks from the publisher side of things. Quite honestly, none of the networks target as well as they claim, but Based on the ads you describe, I think you haven't been tagged with enough data to show you ads relevant to your interests. They also just make mistakes. For instance, I often get ads in Spanish and I unfortunately don't speak that language.

With google, there is an additional option for you to set some preferences on the ads you would prefer to see. Search for google ad preference manager. It will give you some opt out and targeting preference options.

Out of curiosity….

I Googled the term “cougar,” clicked on one of the links, logged back into this forum…

….BOOM! Cougar ad! First try… one click.

(This was solely an experiment, I swear. But, let me pour myself an adult beverage, and see if I can replicate my results. You, now…. because Science!)

Also remember sometimes an ad on a different site will put itself into your history.

According to Google, I am interested in Toyota. Amusing, since I frequent Jeep forums. :D

Clear out your cookies and you will probably stop seeing those.

Yep. A lot of ads are driven by the cookies on your PC. I once looked up some 50's modern furniture, and I still see ads for that stuff. Never did before.

I constantly get ads for "male enhancement" pills ...
... now I think about it, my wife uses my computer a lot

I just signed out to see what I would get:

portable sawmills
NBA playoffs
AT&T cellphones
a local dentist

Hmmmmm...
