26 Basic Ukulele Lessons #5, The Basic Strum is now up on my site. Every Wednesday I'll roll out a new three-minute lesson designed for the person who is just getting started on the ukulele. The series is sponsored by Kala Brand Ukuleles.

this was a great lesson. Learning to keep the neck up is just something I figured out this morning. Also I have been strumming at the wrist so far and I will try to incorporate this exercise into some of the songs I already learned. I do need to stretch some though to make my index more limber(I have medical issues with my hands and can use some strengthening/flexibility of my fingers.)

thanks for putting this series together.

After playing with this strum for a couple hours I noticed a few things. My nails(which are filed appropriately) grab the string less than when up strumming straight perpendicular to the strings. I had to adjust my chuck technique and my thumb sometimes misses the A string. Think I need more wrist motion with the finger movement like you show in the vid(I didn't catch that the first viewing.) I noticed much less volume in my triple strum with my thumb so I am thinking of getting a thumb pick. again, thanks for the great lesson.

edit:
adding the wrist flick fixed both problems I was having.
