1st person shooter games for the PC?

Title says it almost all.
I was thinking of getting counter-strike since too many people play it.
BUT.
Do you know of any FREE and FUN 1st-person shooter games for the PC?
Whether it has an online/offline feature, though offline would be cool too.
But yeah.
If nothing's really that good, suggest some games that cost about 20 dollars are less.
I'm just getting bored around the house sometimes.

just get counterstrike 1.6 haha.
left 4 dead is fun, but its not under 20. it has offline capabilities too

there was this game i played a while back called Combat Arms. It was pretty sick. It plays liek Counter Strike Source except that you buy weapons and you can add on scopes and customize them and such. Its free too!
 
Team Fortress 2! totally awesome game, awesome gameplay, awesome style!

oh ye, it also fits your budget :D
 
Kick it Old School with Quake if your on a budget....
But save up for FEAR 2.... It looks boss...
But Quake was my all-time favorite LAN FPS back in the day....
That and Duke Nukem :)

Used to play that...for like a day..my comp=waaaay too laggy for that....
For now I'll be playing GunZ: The Duel Online.
I can't seem to find Counter-Strike anywhere...
 
Can you play TF2 offline? Like with bots and stuff?
Or any other good game you can play offline and online?
I wanna practice you know :p
 
Nah, TF2 is an online only experience. But hey you'll get better playing against others than you will against bots!

But if you want something with a single player mode with some excellent online play, there was something about Left 4 Dead being half price for this week on Steam. Haven't played it myself but it's received great reviews and it's a great deal at half price.
 
Not gonna lie used to be a counter strike junkie lol and TF2 is good. I dont play any of them anymore =/ But counter strike is a lot of fun, just as you probably know prepare your self for pointless immature 12 year olds (apologies to the 12 year olds that are exceptions) that just like to talk and and be dumb over the internet...never quite understood that lol but thats why the mute option is always your bestfriend haha
