Intalling strings on a Friction Tuner uulele? Yikes

Is there any secrets to nirvana here?

Thanks,
Trey
you'll have to ask the buddha.
on the tuners, I usually loosen the screws, unwind the strings, thread them , and start turning, as they start getting tight, I snug the screws up, and fine tune the tension as they get up to pitch. I'm sure there are plenty of how to on youtube about it. No problem. it is actually faster then geared, even with a string winder.

Is it because you do not like the buttons sticking out the side with most geared tuners, that keeps you with friction tuners? Is it a collector's item that just has to have friction tuners? There is a very light weight tuner that looks like the old round tapered dowel in the hole, except it is a 4:l geared tuner. You can read about them at www.pegheds.net

Sting it this way at the tuner end so it doesn't slip:

That's what I do. With the G & A strings I usually take an extra half turn and put it through the hole again to ensure the string doesn't slip. It applies to geared tuners as well.
