This was my first really nice ukulele, and the one that paved the way for my ukulele addiction. I bought it from a member of my local uke club in 2017. It has the typical bright and loud KoAloha sound. It's all koa, and has the crown headstock and fretboard. It is strung High G with Living Waters strings. I upgraded the original friction tuners to Gotoh UPTs, and added a MiSi active pick-up. It is in great condition. Build date November 2006. Hardshell case included. MiSi charger and one set of extra Living Waters strings included. Will include the original old style friction tuners if the buyer wants them.
I am selling because I now prefer the radius fretboards on my aNueNue Moon Bird, and Cocobolo ukuleles. I haven't been playing this lovely KoAloha as much.

More Pictures. It has been kept in the hardshell case with a humidifier. Non-smoking house. The finish is gloss, but not super shiny. I think they called it an "orange peel" finish. I'm not a big fan of gloss finishes, and this one didn't bother me.

Yours is a lot like my 2013 concert Koaloha KCM-(00, I think). Anyway, I added GOTOH UPT tuners and the MiSi pickup. These really sing with loads of authentic Hawaiian koa sound. Some of the lightest ukes around, with a nice thin neck. A joy to play. Also, the Koaloha folks are really good people, and they warrantee these against any defects in build, even if your’re not the original owner. This goes to assure that even with the light build you can trust it is built to last.

It’s funny how used demand and prices fluctuate. It seems to me that this would have been snapped up a few years ago. It is a lot of quality for the money.

I see other fine ukes I have kept my eye on for prices that are startlingly low and they sit there. A better time to be a buyer than a seller I suppose.

Not my uke (GLWTS), but I will add that I think Koaloha's in particular don't really need a radius on the fret board. I understand though that some people prefer them. Not sure if you've happened to play one before, but the string spacing is on the slightly more conservative side while the actual nut width is slight larger. What this translates to for your fingers is a nice area for them to rest comfortably on when doing bar chords, but since the chords aren't overly spread out you'll be covering them all easily. It doesn't actually feel like a wide nut, or what players normally think of for a wide nut, given the string spacing.

Of my several ukes and many that I have played, I actually find my Koaloha Opio tenor second easiest to play barre chords or just for playing in general. The first is my custom Ono tenor.

I also want to add that, for those looking for lower setups, I would recommend Koaloha's in general. Every uke has a tolerance range for action height and even the best ukes will buzz sometimes if you are too heavy handed. However, I literally cannot even make my low action (2.25 at the 12th) buzz no matter how much I try. I feel like Koaloha's are remarkable in this way regarding their tolerances for lower setups and still putting out huge volume.

You’re probably right. I’ve owned two Koalohas in the past, tenor & soprano, and they were pretty easy to play. String spacing is something I’ve overlooked in focusing on radius & narrow nut.

You are certainly not wrong. There was a time recently that I’d have jumped all over this. And when a startlingly similar ukulele at similar price came up for sale I did just that. Thus my reason for not jumping here.

And I can attest that the KoAloha concert model that showed up at my house is of the highest quality and a true joy to play. So easy and so proud. I don’t foresee a day that I let this one go as I really enjoy having it close by when I want that specific sound. Whoever does end up with this - and a buyer will pop up - is going to be a very happy uker.

Like so many others are saying here, these early KoAloha concerts are fabulous. My very first KoAloha ukulele was a 2007 concert that I purchased here off the Marketplace. I had no experience with KoAloha when I got it-- I purchased on what people on the forum were saying. I was astounded by this uke when I received it. So easy to play and crystal clear- and such a beauty!! Since that time, I thought of selling once. I put it up for sale here at the Marketplace. There was a ton of interest and yet I could not pull the trigger on a sale, and finally, all of my good friends here advised me not to sell it. Since then I have bought and sold over 50 ukes but my early KoAloha concert is not for sale. It is one of the few I will keep forever. Finding these at a good price is difficult so for anyone with any interest what-so-ever-- grab this one. You won't be sorry.

Yep, the decision to sell this ukulele has been a tough one. I have a sentimental attachment to it, but hate to see it sit idle. It really does sing, and it's so light.
