2023 LA Ukulele Festival - UU Meet

Seating is first come, first served but rooms are big enough so you don't have to worry about finding a spot. This is also the reason most every class is taught twice

Hi All!!

I finally bought my Saturday ticket and I've had my Friday ticket for a while now, since I figured those would sell out. I went thru this thread and the initial one started by @mitchchang to try to compile a list of those committed or interested. I'm going to start a group PM where folks can share their contact info, if they're so inclined (no pressure!!). I'm planning to get a hotel across the street at the Extended Stay America, so I'm definitely down for a bite or after hours drink or chill or whatever, aside from the festival events. I'd love to try and jam a few songs with anyone willing to teach or learn! I rarely get to jam in a small group setting and would love to try to feel like Kalei or Corey and try to trade some solos! 😁

btw, I think I finally decided on bringing my low G soprano for ease of both travel and a few Ohta San stretch chords I've been working on. :unsure: gotta jam to see 'em!! 😏

Folks who seem to be confirmed...
@rainbow21
@ailevin
@KohanMike
@genyukulele
@Ila - (we gotta do a SOTU entry!... that goes for any who feels like joining in!!!)
@RafterGirl

Folks who looked interested, but I couldn't tell if they were confirmed.
@FatherMother
@wendy.ukulele
you could meet up Friday in the afternoon to the venue and hang out in the Japanese garden - it's free and open to the publicIMG_3671.JPG

Mitch, are there any highly recommended sites within walking distance? Or casual restaurant recommendations (too late to get the Friday dinner tickets...)?

yes sorry, Friday night is sold out. Seafood Port Chinese is good, Wahoo's Fish tacos. But there are a TON of really good asian places that are a 5-7 min uber ride away. Like this https://www.yelp.com/biz/baekjeong-torrance-torrance?osq=Kang+Ho+Dong+Baekjeong
There is lots within a couple miles, mostly just South of the venue.+1 Wahoo is terrific. We also like Lazy Dog Cafe. It has a broad menu and does a good job. tDin Tai Fung with amazing soup dumplings is in the shopping center with Nordstroms nearby. There is also a good restaurant, Bazille, in Nordstroms. There is a P.F. Changs right near Lazy Dong and several restaurants in the same plaza as Nordstrons. And of course there is fast food nearby too.

if you're not local and are gonna uber anyway, I think I'd head towards the Beach... Manhattan, Hermosa, Redondo, but that's me.

Lots of great choices in Old Torrance too, including Madre, Carlos Jr, Kagura, Local Kitchen, Miyabi Uni, Restoration Kitchen, Red Car Brewery, Sartori Thai & more. All within a couple blocks of each other and less than 2 miles from Extended Stay. There's a sports bar with outdoor seating, you could probably jam a little out there

Hi! I have a ticket for Saturday, haven't got any tickets for Sunday yet. I work late on Fridays, so I can't do anything fun that day/night, but I might be open to a meet up on either Saturday or Sunday after the festival if that's where everyone else is leaning. At first, my social anxiety kicked in at the thought of this, but then I remembered that we are all ukulele people.

I'll probably bring my high-G Koaloha concert again, same as last year, and will be hopping from one workshop to the next all day Saturday.

I started the PM, as mentioned, but we're only allowed to send to five users. Any way to (not so) secretly work around this @TimWilson @ploverwing ?

In the meantime, I can act as a liason/ coordinator to share PMs individually. Please PM to reach out if you're interested in meeting up.

I'm stoked!!

I don't know, but I'll check!

I know that the intent of the limit is to prevent PM spam, but this clearly isn't that. Maybe drop me a PM and tell me more? That will help me focus my research.

Thanks!
