A Seasonista Wrote This...stuff

How did you land that gig Bob? Am mightily impressed mate 👍
Weirdly, I was in the local Co-Op buying some paninis. A guy who I know organises a small annual event in town called Lockstock. It's usually a free showcase for local musicians over the Wirksworth Festival weekend but on the Saturday night he usually manages to land a fairly impressive act for a ticketed show. He had Gordon Giltrap last time and Sid Griffin before that. Anyway, he'd seen my videos on facebook and asked if I had about 30 minutes of original songs I could play. I said, "...er...probably..." he asked if I wanted the Judie Tzuke support slot and I said yes! Then as the day approached I went into terrified beyond belief mode! But it was a great night, the audience were lovely (I was very conscious of the fact they'd paid 30 quid to get in!) and very polite and supportive and Judie was lovely and sounded great! A fantastic experience, all a bit surreal at the time and still a bit looking back at it! I didn't get paid but I did get a free bar which I took full advantage of!

Haha! Good luck with that!

Yeah, it's a pretty nice place to be. Whereabouts were you?
We were in the camper so moved around a bit, first place we stopped was near Glossop, then right over the other side Wyming Brook, then it was back near Kinder, stopped a few nights at Hayfield, and last place we stopped was near Matlock, Farley Meadow. We found a few wild swimming spots, went on a few long walks, did some cycling, on the Monsal Trail as well as some other places. Had a fab two weeks, some of the scenery was just awesome 👍

Nice! You were pretty close. I'm just up the road from Matlock in Wirksworth. Yeah, there are some lovely spots around here for walking/running/swimming. My morning commute is a 3 mile walk along the High Peak Trail down into Cromford. It's a beautiful walk and I count myself very lucky!
You'll have to give me a shout next time you're in the area!

Definitely 👍

boys and girls, more wonky animations from auntiejoo!

I made this slightly more than 2 years ago when I first discovered a fun animation app on my old ipad.
then I made up a soundtrack for the animation.

today I re-recorded the song.

I see the see sea -
But is it the sea that I see?
Moonbow -
Cold crow -
Secrets -
nobody sees.

I decided that a fun thing to do over the holidays would be to record some of the songs I wrote last year and stick them up on BandCamp. So I did. Here it is!

Since it was a holiday vanity project done by a bedroom hack, you can have it for nowt. (My sales patter may need some work...)

found a song I wrote in 2020 that fits John's theme this week.
But since it is an old recording I will share it here. :---)

I added the A to D to G7 changes to give it a Jimmie Rodgers feel, but I'm afraid I can't yodel. I didn't have an F harp, so I had to fake it on a C harp. It loses the bluesey sound, but it kinda worked.

My Dad has advancing dementia and now barely recognises me when I go to see him. He doesn’t know my name and he can’t make any meaningful conversation. But I take my ukulele, and when I start to play the songs he knows and loves, he starts to sing with me. He knows and sings all the words. And it’s beautiful! :)

Lyrics

Hey, Dad - are you in there?
I saw a look of recognition in your eyes
Hey, Dad - do you still know me?
I need to know if you’re still there inside.

But at least for now
We can sing together;
You know all the words, though you no longer know my name.
Yes, at least for now
We can sing together;
You can’t be truly lost if music reignites the flame.

Hey, Dad - you know I miss you,
Our one-way conversations fill my head.
But hey, Dad - I’ll keep on talking -
Just hope you understand the things I said.

But at least for now
We can sing together;
You know all the words, though you no longer know my name.
Yes, at least for now
We can sing together;
You can’t be truly lost if music reignites the flame.

Hey, Dad - I’ll be back next week -
I’ll bring my ukulele, we’ll have fun.
And hey, Dad - in case you’re wondering -
I love you, Dad, still proud to be your son.

But at least for now
We can sing together;
You know all the words, though you no longer know my name.
Yes, at least for now
We can sing together;
You can’t be truly lost if music reignites the flame.
You can’t be truly lost if music reignites the flame

I invited Nicki up from Yangon to visit me here in Mandalay this weekend.
I awoke on Sunday to find her gone. Took her bags and split in the middle of the night while I was sleeping.
See what happens when you skip the Seasonista Open Mic?!
Okay, maybe it was because I'd asked her to marry me.

I missed the open mic last night because I was doing an online concert for a thing called "Festival of the Living Rooms" which is a quarterly event where nerds like me get together and sing the sorts of songs that nerds like me like to sing. I managed to record it, and it even worked, so here it is.
