Anyone going to this year's Wine Country Ukulele Festival?

I'm looking forward to meeting other UU members as well. How do we find each other? Also, I've never been to a festival and I really don't know what uke to bring. Any suggestions? I can only play the sopranos after I've practiced extensively on the tenors. Maybe I need a new uke for the festival :)

You might be able to spot me with my Mya-Moe hardshell case that has a couple of Ukulele Underground stickers on it. I'm also planning on taking Rick Turner's course at the Crucible, so if I don't see you at WCUF, I'll see you in October.

I'll be in workshops Saturday with Ken Middleton, James Hill, and Aaron Keim, and then just hanging around on Sunday.

I'm fairly easy to spot in a crowd. I'm most likely the biggest Japanese guy you've ever seen :) I'm in the James Hill workshop too. Also looking forward to the uke build. Haven't looked forward to anything with this much excitement since the birth of my son!

Ok, I put the Southcoast nonwound linear set on my Mainland mahogany baritone. I love them! It's like having a really deep resonant tenor. I played it with my uke group the other night and it was great fun. Highly recommended!

it's great to hear that, Mary. I'll have to get a set and try them first on my Pono mahogany baritone, although I won't be changing strings myself for a while (broken finger). Thanks for the report.

There has been lots of talk of UU meet-ups at this year's festival. It is going to be really busy festival for me though. I am teaching several workshops on the Saturday and the Sunday, I am performing on the main stage on Saturday morning and in the concert on Saturday evening. I'll no doubt be playing at the Post-Festival Jam on Sunday night too. The rest of the time I will at the Ohana booth.

If you are attending, PLEASE come and say hello. I have met many of you before, I know, but I would love to put a few more faces to names.

I will be tied to our booth for the main part of the fest, but the I was planning on attending the after event post jam on Sunday.Stop by and say I. I always like to see the names with the faces of the UU members.

I'll be there teaching and performing. I am teaching three uke workshops. They are Swing/Jazz oriented. They will teach you how to play in any key easily using just 5-6 chord shapes. If you can play your basic open string chords and can switch between them easily you are ready for my workshops. It also helps to enjoy Swing/Pop music from the 1930's, 40's and 50's as well. But the 5-6 chord concept can be used in all styles of music.

Basically I'm teaching you to not work so hard on the uke. It's easy!

Sorry but my beginning fingerpicking workshop is full.

See you there!

I took a jazz workshop you gave at last year's festival and enjoyed it immensely. I'm actually registered for your beginner fingerpicking workshop, although I have since broken the tip of the middle finger on my strumming hand, so I'll probably have to just watch what you're teaching. See you there!

Hi Gerald - I'm taking your beginning fingerpicking class too but I wanted to take several of the other ones you're teaching too! Georgia Brown, Swing Foundations, and Writing a Chord Chart especially. Are you going to be teaching anywhere else while you're out on the West Coast after the festival?

Thanks to all who have signed up for my workshops next weekend. It's going to be fun.

My West Coast trip this weekend will be whirlwind. I arrive Friday morning and fly home Monday morning. No additional gigs or workshops this time around.

Just received my schedule for the workshops.
Saturday Session
2: James Hill Saturday Session
3: Essential Strums w/ Lil Rev
Sunday Session
1: Hawaiian Strumming w/ Steven Espaniola
2:Breaking out of the Strumming Rut w/ Aaron Keim
3: KaniKaPila with Faith Ako

Hopefully I won't be too far over my head. Hope to meet fellow UUer's there. I'll be the large Japanese guy with the confused look on his face :)
