Hi everyone,

I've been running forums since 1988, and it has never happened to me before...but it happens to EVERY sysadmin eventually, and today was my turn. In attempting to troubleshoot a database archive glitch that I'd found earlier today, I accidentally moved a backup in the wrong direction, and have overwritten everything new that's been posted in the past 10-12 hours.

Those of you who've worked with backup restoration know that it's all or nothing, and I really didn't want to do without all the stuff that had gone missing...but the price is that the handful of posts made today are gone, and will need to be reposted.

My deepest apologies if you're one of the folks who got bit by this. I'm truly sorry, and am working on building in more frequent backups, and looking into more nimble restoration options.

Please PM me with any questions!

Regards,
Tim

Thanks for all the work you do on the forum. I'm amazed at how smoothly it all runs. Don't worry, it was just a hiccup, and your work, time and energy to make this forum run smoothly is much appreciated.

That explains why I thought I had posted something earlier today but didn't see it just now. Whew, I thought I had done something wrong but it was just computers behaving badly, as they sometimes do.

Thanks for all of your work on the forum.

Nobody'll miss my usual babble anyway... it might have even saved several minutes of their precious time, and that's good. Also good is testing your restore methods under duress :) Thanks for the excellent support!

I thought I was getting more senile...Thanks

Yeah, and thank heaven those naked pictures were consigned to oblivion!
Which ones? The Skydiving photos, or the pickelball set?

Too bad. I posted some information about a uke collector who is liquidating their collection and giving away a pristine Martin style 3.

I guess it has been lost :LOL:

Whew - I thought I had offended some rule. I can repost later today and complete a conversation of yesterday.
All will be well. Stuff happens.

(Didn't the band Orleans write a song about future forum sysadmins back in 1975?)

You're still the one
Who can fix that glitch;
Still the one
And we wouldn't switch;
We're still havin' fun,
And you're still the one!

And we appreciate this free platform where we get to spend time with each other, that Tim keeps going (and improving upon!) for free. Thanks a lot, Tim, you're amazing! Mistakes and all 🤪

(Said as a general forum member, definitely not wearing my mod hat, because that would just be weird).

You guys are amazing. Definitely earn the props you receive every day managing such a huge website forum. Bravo!
