Do it!
My experience is that is will make the sound louder... for you, the player, anyhow.
My example: a Luna concert that I bought with a forklift hole punched into it. Of the several Lunas like it in my classroom, this one sounds best.
Not suggesting you use a forklift to make the hole though... just saying that I think it's a good idea, and that I'm considering the same idea with my Fluke tenor... I guess you can order a Fluke from the factory this way now.
But I have a Foredom flex shaft tool I use for lapidary work. Sounds like a no brainer...
And what the heck: Just put a new set of strings on while you are at it... You deserve a fresh set as a reward for your bold decisiveness...
