I've only lived here since 1984, so of course I'm a newcomer. I've had a banjo uke, since before that, and for a stretch I had a cheap but good baritone uke, and a tenor banjo, I built from spare parts I found at different music stores hundreds of mile apart, which I tuned like a baritone uke.... And I am about to put new strings on my bouzouk-ulele, which Is a guitar bouzouki, which I tune like a tenor guitar or baritone uke, not in fifths like an Irish Bouzouki. Recently, I heard a video ukulele reviewer recommend this forum, and then today I thought of a question related to my ancient off-brand banjo-uke, and the search engine took me to a discussion in the forums here, so I thought I should register. I am a strummer, not a picker and decades our of practice, compared to my days of best playing. So I could learn from any forum thread. My specialties are actually blues kazoo and stoneware bass, with some harmonic playing on the side.

Hi IllinoisSteve! Welcome to the UU Forum! Your ukulele experiences are quite varied. And very cool.

I lived in Rockford, IL for about 5 years in the early 80s.

From another "Illinois"-boy. I too tend to tune everything mostly like a baritone, while some are in 5ths.
You're in good company here.

Glad you found us, Steve! Welcome from 40 miles north of, and a world apart from, Atlanta! A quarter-hour drive east of my home is the fast-growing city of Cumming, Georgia. Its city limits include Buford Dam and the resulting Chattahoochee River impoundment known as Lake Sidney Lanier. Back in the 1970's, a particularly memorable mayor commissioned two signs which local convicts then erected at the eastern and western city limits along the city's main thoroughfare, State Route 20.

The sign read, "Welcome to Cumming! Best little town in Georgia by a dam site."🤣
