Hello from wales,uk. I started learning the ukulele in September 2023 as stress relief from my nursing job. I currently am using a basic cheap Amazon uke till I get better and then I’ll upgrade. I use Chordify to learn songs and practice my chords. Currently trying to improve my strumming!

Greetings @Yodelele! I'm so glad you found us! You'll soon discover that we have quite a few nurses and other health care professionals here, and that stress relief has been what brought many of us to the ukulele.

Stress relief was a big part of it for me, for sure! I likewise started with an Amazon cheapie while I figured out what I was looking for. It turns out that the answer to this is...complicated 🤣 ...but the exploration is part of the fun. 😊

Aloha,
Tim

Hi @Yodelele! Welcome from beyond the pond (California). The ukulele is a perfect stress reliever. I'm sure your patients would love it too!

Hi Yodelele, welcome to the UU Forum. Playing the ukulele is great for stress relief.

After you are further along with learning your uke, you might be interested in these two books by Daniel Ward: The first book is "Arpeggio Meditations for Ukulele", followed by "Melodic Meditations for Ukulele".

They are available at www.danielward.net

The studies in the book are designed to help learn control for both hands with picking. Looped, they are meditative in nature. The books progress from easy pieces and increase in difficulty. Sound & video instruction are also available online at the same website.

Welcome to UU, Yodelele!
Music is a great stress reliever, enjoy your uke journey!

It's amazing what we all have in common. I went to Wales as a wee lad of 19 y/o. I loved the amazing friendly people.

I too am a RN nurse. I went to nursing school late in life. What a joy it is to help people. It was stressful at times though.

Welcome Yodelele!

Hello and welcome. Stress relief, one of my friends is a nurse and music is definitely one of her forms of stress relief.

The best I can suggest to you is to join a Uke Club and go to what meetings that your shift pattern will allow. Sing and strum is usually joyous and entry level skills as low, indeed nobody knows if you’re doing it wrong so just go along and learn as you go - folk will welcome you in, Uke clubs are virtually always welcoming and friendly places. If you can’t find a club then ask here and someone will point you towards some.

I've just joined. Looking down the 'Introductions' thread I see I'm not the only one from Wales. Nice to meet you, neighbour!
