Anyone knows what happened to their podcast? Last video was like a month back. Starting to have withdrawal symptoms! 😂

I noticed that, also. Maybe they’re taking a vacation?

I felt that way too, but a quick look at their history does show month beaks. ⏳

We’ve just gotten spoiled. With an average of 45mins to 1hr 30mins (aka long form) videos, it’s gotta take a heck of a lot of time to do the video editing with all those different camera angles. Then, there’s the sound/level mixing with all the different mics and pickups. I see how it easily could become a full time job itself (not to mention Andrew still has a business to run). Plus, I can imagine if anything, all that content is only helping sales even more so yeah.. more meeting demand and therefore less podcasts. God, that’s got to be a great problem to have in 2023.. bless it. Aloha Andrew & the HMS crew - we appreciate you 🤙

One can also enjoy the TUS Clips at least I do ;)

This Sunday is the launch of the first "Hawaii Ukulele Festival" (to be or not to be confused with the 52 year discontinued "Honolulu Ukulele Festival"). Corey and Kalei are performing a 30 minute set. So perhaps they are actually rehearsing for it (lol?).

But it is also likely that they are intimately involved behind the scenes to help make the event successful. This suffices as an explanation for why there is no podcast this week.

Added: There is also a new redesigned website for TUS... Must have just launched this morning.

I just saw this update and came to this thread to comment. Is it just me, or are they still working out a few bugs? I was unable to click on Shop By Brand from the main menu and I also can't find a search bar. That's definitely not an easy task and I'm sure they've been working diligently.

I really appreciate the love they all have for the 'ukulele and all their hustle. They record after a full day of work, I think on Monday or Tuesday, and I'm sure they usually go well past 10pm. Then Andrew edits sometime during the week and they usually drop the ep sometime Thurs to Satuday? Not to mention the TUS Clips. I sure miss em!

The latest ep I went back to was with Brittni and Kalei... tryna learn to jam Breezing'!

I can click on the brands and do have a search bar using my PC.

Just saw the new website this morning. Looks good. I have been able to find everything so far.

Seems to me this was never a regularly scheduled podcast (like the UU podcast). When HMS get a shipment of new ukulele models, they'll record a podcast to create sound samples for the new instruments. Maybe summer is a slow time for new ukulele models. Summer is also the busy season in Waikiki, so special guests may be harder to book.

I have heard Andrew mention that he hopes to get to 52 in a year, but I think that's just more of a personal goal of his. They often drop a couple in a week, so I'm still holding out hope! They're on 23 now.

Maybe.. just  maybe the busy seasons means there are MORE guests available with amazing sessions and they're recording like crazy! They have guests we'd never dream just stacked up and waiting to release, but they're too busy recording more and more!

Maybe an episode with Jack Johnson, Bruno Mars, Eddie Vedder, and Iam Tongi jamming with Kalei and Corey is in queue?!? 😉

Not to derail this thread too much, but is there any other thread on podcasts in general? I've had a great time listening to Ukulele Tales with John Atkins and also just started listening to Jame Hill's recent baritone episodes on Uketropolis.

Maybe these can hold you over until the next HMS ep!

oh wow. what a fun treat to wake up to!
You killed those ukes! Didn't realize you use lattice bracing too. I imagine that live edge might dictate a type of bracing, but do you prefer the sound of fan or lattice bracing on your ukes?

oh thank you! it was really fun to make those ukes.

this was my first lattice bracing. i sort of modified it a little to work with a string through bridge & bridge plate. it has a bit of an X brace for the main structure, and then a very light lattice bracing branching off of that. that way i felt confident getting the bridge plate in there without interfering with the lattice. long story short i was blown away by the bracing and really liked it. I’ll definitely do more.

as for live edge bracing. yes i usually let the set of wood dictate what kind of bracing will be structurally sound. this uke in the video is a live edge sound hole, but sometimes i also do a live edge seam. for those especially i really put a lot of thought into how to brace. almost always i build custom bracing bits to follow along the edge.

lately i’ve been really liking a custom V bracing. I usually install it with a bit of compensation and i think those sound wonderful. I’ve been slowly doing less and less fan bracing. I feel like I can get a little more out of each instrument with V or Lattice to my ear.
