Firstly, I hope it's not too late to wish everyone a
Happy and Prosperous New Year.

I have been asked (admittedly not very often) in the past to explain how to transcribe lute and other old music for the ukulele. In the Renaissance the music for guitar, lute and vihuela was written in tabs, not notation, and it's not immediately apparent how to play it. So, I have blogged an article on the transcribing and arranging process here.

If it tickles your fancy, do have a look - or even have a go at transcribing yourself!

Hi Bill
Thank you for taking the time to write such an authoritative, closely-argued explanation. You make a good point.
In fact, I do put open string 3 on middle C, which means I need only 3 ledger lines for the low G on string 4, and not too many ledger lines for high notes.

I did do the guitar transposition version at first (which is also used for the banjo), but as you say this looked terrible, like this:

I will check my blog post to make sure all is clear.
All best wishes
