In Progress Improved Search 1.0

Howdy! I just wanted to let you know that the much-requested improved Search has arrived!

It's called Advanced Search, and the first thing I tried to test it was "low G" which produces only an error message in the old search, but here, produces hundreds of results that are all relevant! I also tried 8-string and NUD, exactly there kind of short terms (3 letters or less) that the default Search normally rejects. I was blown away, and I think you will be too.

For now, it's available only in very specific locations, but I'm working on rewiring the site to make this the default when you click the magnifying glass symbol...

...but for now, here it is on desktop:

I hope to have it more fully integrated in the next few days, but I can't wait for you to give it a try! Lemme know what you think!

Yay, Tim. Finally a search function that works. Tried UAS in a couple forums via my phone and it works perfectly.

Thanks for adding to the pleasure and ease of using UU.

Just tried the new search. There was only one result for the search [tuner maintenance, tech tips forum. search post] but it found exactly what I was looking for in a 2014 post.

Nice to hear. There have been times where a search has either failed to narrow down the info or I got the message that the words were too common. Looking forward to all the updates.

This site has seen SO many amazing improvements lately! Thanks for all who have worked hard to make that happen

If you can remember any of those terms, please try them in the new engine! I'm continuing to be very happy with the results.

I have not yet determined why it's not showing when you click on the magnifying glass in our default theme (called Underground), which is very much what I want --- but I meant to note that for anyone playing in our experimental theme called Sky, when you click the magnifying glass, you do indeed get the new Advanced Search, instead of the default old search!

There are OTHER limitations in Sky (which is why we note its "limited functionality" right there in the title!), but the Advanced Search and slick reactions are a lot of fun if you're up for a little experimenting.

To try Sky, just click on the name Underground, allllll the way at the bottom left of the page, with a paintbrush next to the name, and you'll see the Sky option appear. We'll eventually have plenty of themes for folks to play with, but for now, Underground and Sky are the ones that most folks will want to stick with.

This is such an exciting development. I know how many of us have been continuously frustrated by the limited search functionality here. I'm so glad that you have found a solution that seems to be working!

Fyi, I tried searching Ono and got plenty of Pono results. Still better than the error I used to get before, and was I was able to scroll down and find Ono specific threads.

I tried searching "Ono" (with quotes) and got no results. I just tried searching all content for "good work (with quotes) to see if I could find the post above, but also got no results. Seems like searching with quotes doesn't work like I'm used to.

I also haven't tried any Boolean searches, so I don't know about those either, but that may be the tradeoff we have to make. I'll speak with the developer, and see what he says.
