I have to admit that I am a huge fan of koa fretboards on ukes, but they discolour with use and I wonder about how to best care for them. Mine are on a white label Kamaka and an early KoAloha. I have a few steel string guitars with ebony fretboards that I sometimes condition with mineral oil, but I am concerned that this would further darken the koa. So what's the best way to restore and keep them nice?
I guess you can oil the koa too, but that darkens it. Your skin leaves sebum, which is grease-like. If you want to take that off before putting on oil, you could probably use Ronsonol or similar. But my guess is that oiling the board is the only way to minimise those "fingerfatprints"...
