The spam people told me it stood for SPiced hAM. Did they lie?

From Wikipedia..

Name[edit source | edit]Ken Daigneau, brother of a Hormel executive, won a $100 prize in a naming contest in 1937.[4] Various theory exist as to how he derived the name.[5] SPiced hAM is implausible since the original product contained no spices,[6] Specially Processed American Meat is self-evidently a backronym, leaving Shoulder of Pork and hAM (the two cuts of meat that form the main ingredients[6]) as a possibility. Another possibility is Spare Parts All Meat. The company cannot or will not provide a definitive answer.[7]
So yes.. they lied.
