As an infrequent seller, I'd think sellers would want to pique buyers' interest and drive potential buyers towards looking at the full ad and photos before ruling out buying...that won't happen if the price is in the title.

Always, yes. Titles on any threads can be changed by the originator of the thread, and/or by the moderator team if the OP can't figure out how to do it.

I suspect more clicks would be generated by a "great" price in a thread title. But, I could be wrong. I do know that the older I get, the more valuable my time is. If you want me as a potential customer put the price in the title.

Tough enough to get ownership photos. No need to put another requirement for posting in the marketplace.

Note that the request is because the member has slow internet, not because it would be better for others or the forum.

I agree it sounds like way more trouble than it's worth. The price is already easy to find and the mods are already working too hard.

It's kinda like shopping online and the seller asks you to "add to cart for price". Transparency and time savings couldn't be good for others or the forum?

Mods don't have to do anything to include a price in a marketplace thread title. OP can do it and edit it if the price changes. It's no big deal though. Plenty of options for places and ways to buy and sell a uke these days.

transparency is fine... the price is right there at the top of the post. but if someone doesn't want to click on it to see it, maybe that's a good way to weed out those that aren't serious about buying? how many seconds are saved by not clicking?

If Henry Ford found a good way to "weed out those that aren't serious about buying" we might still be riding horses and the world would be less polluted.

Me, I'm somewhat disinclined to require the price in the subject line, because the price can change. In some cases, several times.

I'm not advocating for, but some sellers change the listing title to include Price Drop. I keep looking back to see the price drop but it's still the previous price. In that instance I would like the price visible, but not enough to ask for it.

You could say the same thing about adding prof of ownership photo, but it seems like the Mods spend half their waking lives reminding sellers to add that to their posts.

Let me put it this way:

I am happy to add it as a suggestion to the Marketplace Guidelines, I am very reluctant to add it as a rule to the Marketplace Rules. Suggestions can be followed or not. Rules require enforcement by the moderator team, and yes, we do spend a not insignificant time reminding people about the resurrected "proof of ownership" rule (but that's ok - I know people don't read stuff).

I don't think Stoneyrun's request was a poorly thought out one, nor do I think it was invalid, nor do I think they're threatening to leave the forum if they don't get their way (although they may choose to buy ukuleles from a different platform - but they may anyway, for completely different reasons than having a price on the subject line or not). It's fine to stand for your opinion and support it, and to refute someone else's opinion with solid reasons and/or facts, but let's back down from taking and giving offense on this one, it's really not that big a deal.

It seems that most of the responses here are not in favour of enforcing a rule to put a price in the thread title, but if a seller wishes to put the price in the title that it's not necessarily a bad thing, as long as they're aware enough to change it accordingly when they make changes to the main "price" field with price drops etc.

I was wondering can I limit my buyers to buying in my area (I live in los angles area) and also can I make a post about advice in pricing because I don’t see many post about my first uke model but it’s from islander a more common brand so I wanted advice from a non bias opinion someone who’s not buying the instrument to help price it. And if I can do that do I post in uke talk or marketplace place. Thanks for any help

Welcome to the forum! I appreciate that there's a lot of new stuff to absorb when you first start up, and Marketplace is not as transparent as we'd necessarily aim it to be.

Yes, absolutely, you can restrict to your area. When you post something for sale, there's a "Shipping" field that must be completed: just state "Pickup only in ___________ area."

I would recommend that you post your question about pricing either in Uke Talk (most active) or Buying Tips. The Marketplace forum is, ideally, a place specifically just for For Sale (or Trade or Wanted) posts.
