Hello my G string on my baritone has a buzz. I think I have identified the cause. The top mounting screw for the tuner does not fasten. It just spins endlessly. When I apply pressure to the screw the buzzing stops. Anyone have any ideas for a fix or do I need to bring this in for fixing? Thanks!

Loosen the string to remove all tension.
Remove both the top and bottom mounting screws.
Set both screws aside for now.
Grab a round toothpick. If you only have flat ones, that will work, but round is best.
Apply a tiny bit of Titebond or other wood glue to the sharp end of the toothpick and push it in the bottom hole.
Break off the part that extends out of the hole.
Do the same with the other sharp end of the toothpick, and the other tuner mounting hole.
Allow the glue to set overnight.
Grab each of the screws and re-install.
Problem solved.

I would remove the tuner, whittle a thin piece of soft wood with a taper that you can coat with wood glue and drive into the offending hole. Let this dry and then trim it flush with a sharp chisel or razor knife. Carefully drill a 1/16"hole in the enter of your plug and refasten your tuner voila! Be careful you don't drill thru the head plate!

Thanks for the replies! I am going to start fixing this today!

Your short answer worked just as well (and said the same) as my wordy one.😂
It’s a lifelong affliction. My High school English teacher would always take me to task for not fleshing out my prose. My writing style was and still is a little abrupt.

My wife’s pet peeve about high school composition class is that we were forced to un-learn all that flowery, adjective- and adverb-filled prose when taking Business Writing in college.

As you might have assumed, the only reason to infill both the top and bottom screw holes is that you get both done at the same time and avoid needing to correct a 2nd stripped mounting screw in the near future.

Just wanted to come back and say thanks! The toothpick method worked! Then the string broke shortly after tuning…I don’t have any spares on hand so new ones have been ordered 😅
