So… on Amazon… 1am… and typed in “ukulele” just to see what I stumble on… and this thing pops up and caught my eye. I haven’t seen caramel or any other lower priced import ukulele with this style body. They have 2 that peaked my interest enough for me to make a late night delirious decision to buy one to find out. (we’ve all been there😂). For $100?! Why not!
They have a curly maple and curly acacia model that are pretty beautiful from pictures. I got the acacia version and should be here Tuesday. Hopefully it’s a winner or an easy return to Amazon if it’s a no go. With that body shape, richlite fretboard and bridge, and ox bone nut and saddle… I don’t see why it would be bad… but we’ll check back when it arrives🤙🏽

What y’all think?

Some pics of the acacia and maple models.

Jdterlaje, please post a "New Uke Day" after you've checked it out. Include pics!

The PVC veneer headstock is unusual. I like the Maple.
The top must be laminate, as Caramel usually states "solid" when it is. Hey, it's $100.

Caramel has done some "short runs" of nice ukes before, notably the:
Caramel CB305
Solid Spruce Top
Quilted Maple Sides and Back

This short run was in Sep, 2020. It is the only baritone that I've kept.

Cost effective material. Looks pitch black too which I like. Looks clean and blends well with their tuning machines

Spruce and maple… that’s gotta be a nice boomy baritone.

Let’s hope this model is gonna be their next run. Also asked if it’s laminated or solid wood and to my surprise, it is indeed all solid. This should be interesting

This wasn’t a “new uke day” though. Was a Uke to talk about. What this section seemed to be for.

The CB305 is actually clear as a bell. Bold, but not boomy. Strings #4 and #3 are D'addarario nylon wounds. The trebles are Aquila New Nylguts.

This jumbo concert is all solid, huh?
Hmm... I would be happy with just a solid top.
<edit 16/24-Apr> If you zoom in on the Maple's soundhole edge you can see that (well, it looks like) it is solid.

I’m surprised myself. I mean for $100 it’s definitely worth it. It might be that one model that surprises everybody.
(Knock on wood)

Hopefully it’ll be an early arrival tomorrow 🤞🏼

I'm totally dead set against buying ukuleles and other musical instruments off Amazon, but hey, it's your money....

From the Amazon description: "Carbon Fiber Strings for Exceptional Performance"??? o_O

I can't seem to find that uke on Amazon, could you please post the link?

I just ordered the Arlfrican Mahogany for 79.99 minus 20%. Also comes with a tuner, which I can always use an extra in the class.

I must confess:
The White Curly Maple arrives next Friday, the 19th.

I did this because the last two purchases I made turned out to be... "bad" choices.
(In both cases, got a bit out of my lane and was disappointed.)

I own several Caramels and confident this one will be "A Charm."
"B sides," Amazon returns are not difficult.

Put this in Amazon's search bar. All the wood choices will be there:

Caramel CAG64 Glossy White Curly Maple 23" Concert Ukulele for Beginner | Handmade Ukelele Starter Kit
Found it. Thanks, I think. lol

drooool

The lower bout has to be wider than the description states:
Dimensions (overall) LxWxH 24.3 x 8(?) x 2.7 inches
It joins at the 14th fret. The body is not longer, so it has to be wider.
It will reveal itself upon arrival...
