Motown's Detroit, Michigan recording studio was called Hitsville U.S.A. That made Hitsville a nickname for Detroit for plenty of music lovers.

And in 1980, The Clash borrowed the name to describe how bands in the U.K. music scene found their places on independent and major record labels.
