Season 596: There are more questions than answers

The last few days I've had clogged ears that have diminished my hearing, and I didn't properly appreciate until just now how much that affects the process of making a video. This is a Richard Thompson song that appeared on the CD version of "Small Town Romance" and that he provided to Fairport Convention for their "Gladys' Leap" album.

Last week I asked my music maven friend Bob in Massachusetts for song suggestions, and he seemed to find it harder than I expected. Then today out of nowhere he texted me this suggestion for 596's questions theme ... and whaddya know ... it has a plant in it (Mashed POTATO) so it works for 597 too!

I'm in a course this weekend - long hours on Zoom on US time, so this was a totally unrehearsed, unprepared Verandah 2 Jam day 5 quickie. If I'd thought ahead about those impending low notes, I might have tried a different key. 😜

If someone else has already done this, forgive me ... I've lost track after over 100 entries!

Loads of questions in this one from the late, great Rick Mayall - wish I’d had the bottle to do it for the season! You should all be feeling very relieved that I didn’t! 😆

Hi everyone! While you're watering your plants, don't forget that you still have, oh, a touch under 17 hours to get your question and answer songs in. We have 120 so far, which is just bonkers, but also wonderful. I'm betting we'll have at least 122, on past form :).

Remember there's a couple of prizes on offer... And if anyone does offer their take on Rik Mayall's variant of "Do You Love Me?" then, well, I'm not sure if that helps to win one or not, but wasn't he a comic legend? Another one gone too soon :(.

There is a part of me that wants to do this so badly. All the other parts of me are currently suppressing that urge and Melissa is rooting for them…
Anyway Hi?!
The man was a genius.

Listen to the part of you that wants to do it... we will all love you for it all the more :).

from my up and coming Punk debut, Never Mind the Air Conditioner, a compromise that Melissa agreed to as long as she can call on the favor layer and in a manner to be determined. I am probably going to regret this agreement….

Here's hoping the Seasons don't change too much with all the recent differences of opinion. I guess it's the only constant and mother nature's seasons are always cycling.

One thing I really enjoy about SOTU is when themes trigger me to learn songs on the uke that I've loved for years or decades. This is a good one to have in the repertoire when I'm in the mood for a mood.

'It's So Hard To Say Goodbye' by Boyz II Men.
I got it in one take!!

Man, Jim you are ROLLING tonight- off to watch those in a second. Really kind of sad that the Hawaiian clock is ticking on this season, what fun it has been. And really, a spectacular and forgiving host, thank you sir! In the interest of you having a slew of videos to deal with tomorrow, I bring you this. I am not sure it is even OK…can we still play Oasis? Is it just Wonderwall that is banned? I showed you my underwear (well really that is on Mel)- why am I worried?
Anyway- thanks for all the fun this week. Here’s one that is not quite ready but who cares?

Proof that sometimes you can squeeze something into a given theme that was too late for the theme for which it was originally intended. I started this one too late in Bob’s “John, Paul, George, and bongos” season, but it does pose a question, “ain’t you had enough of this stuff?” and so also fits this one. Sorry about the croak, I brought home more than pictures and a couple souvenirs from vacation last week. But I had to get this one out of my system.

Thanks for hosting Edwin. I think you’ve got your work cut out for you this week.

I know Mr Renaissance already did a way better version of this already on 597, and normally I wouldn't ... but I've been in a Zoom course on US time all weekend, I'm exhausted, and I practiced this last night before he posted his, and it was all I had the energy for today.

It fits both themes ... which RM either seems to have missed, or was too polite to double-post. "If I kiss you ... will you pardon me?"

If you're going to watch only one, watch his!

Verandah 2 Jam day 6

I found a great old song to bring you all, but I didn't have the energy. Then I considered going with Dr Uke's arrangement of Where Did You Get That Hat, but the song appears to still be copyrighted in the UK. So I picked three children's songs I grew up with, and which will be new to most of you.;)

Song no two, about a ferryman: Skipper, may I cross (the river), yes or no? Must I pay a cent, yes or no?
