Season 596: There are more questions than answers

The third and final fraditional children's song from me today asks the listener if they know the musselman. Since he is quite famous, everyone answers this one affirmatively.

And with that trio from MsBean, that's it for the week - I've brought the playlist up to date, although I probably won't be able to catch up with listening to the last little burst myself until later this evening. I'll decide on the winners and post a wrap in the next day or so...

135 songs to listen to, though! It's been a bumper week, thanks all!

You gave us a topic with lots of choices this week Edwin. Thanks for that.
A few songs that were on my list, but I didn't get time for:
Do You Believe In Magic?
Which Side Are You On?
What Did You Learn In School Today?
Baby Won't You Please Come Home?
Gee Baby Ain't I Good To You?

Edited to add What Do They Make In Ottawa? I'll do this one at the Seasonistas on-line get together / open mic on Saturday.

I'm just catching up with the final submissions now. I'm running (for the want of a better word) a summer school this week, so I'm not sure I'll have much more of a chance to post a wrap - I will therefore pick my winners very soon... meanwhile, I could have sworn there was a late post that I saw earlier today. I was going to sneak it onto the playlist anyway. People have been generous to me when I've missed deadlines so I'm happy to let it slide if you post it quickly and if it's the one I remember seeing :).

Right then... I believe I am all caught up with the playlist. What a wonderful week it's been! You've clearly been having loads of fun, and a few of you (notably TCK, Canada Jim and Wendy) have posted more than ten songs. I am so happy to have picked a theme that got you this engaged! And many others have been productive too. I'm a bit scared to name names in case I miss anyone, and so I won't, but seeing the Q&As going on especially with the answers to original songs has been a joy.

Anyway. I'm supposed to pick winners, because I said I would. It's tricky, but I'm going to avoid overthinking it and just go with a couple of posts where my first reaction made me the happiest. So, here we go:

  • Prize for "song picked on the whim of the host" goes to Edith King's cover of Taylor Swift's "Nothing New" backed by some chap in shades with a very cool uke. I've never really been into Taylor Swift but there's something about stripping a song back like that which brings out just how good it is.
  • Prize for "favourite original response song" goes to Tom McArdle for his reply to "Have You Ever Seen The Rain?". I think this might have been the most responded to song of the season. I disqualified mine on the grounds that it was mine and I can get myself a prize any time I like, but Tom's song just grabbed me straight away and I've gone back to listen to it again a few times already...
I encourage you to go back and listen to the whole playlist, because what a joy this week has been, but those two especially.

@bobjking and @engravertom, please PM me your addresses, and let me know what you'd like from this page: https://worldofukes.co.uk/merchandise
Anything up to £20 is fine. I'm also happy to subscribe you to Uke magazine for a year, which I always find a fun diversion when it turns up every three months.

I also really want to reward all of you who've been so enthusiastic about posting all your songs. I wasn't really sure how to do that, because so many people have been so enthusiastic that I didn't really want to pick any individual, but I've been mulling it over today, and decided that I'm going to donate £1 to my local food bank for every song. It horrifies me that these things are still necessary in the 21st century, but there you have it. You didn't know when we started that you were going to be helping, but you are. Thank you! I will let write to them and let them know where the mysterious donation of a very specific amount has come from, and perhaps they will enjoy your posts too :).

I have had so much fun this week, and I'm not sure I'll ever host such a lively season again. I hope I am wrong about that :). Now. off to the plants... please give @TCK as much entertainment as you've given me.

wonderful, wonderful mate!!! thanks Edwin!
one of my favourite weeks ever. fantastic music, covers and originals
lots of fun and encouragement, new members joining in
and despite all the answers i'm just as stupid as i was at the start of the week.
perfect.
:)

Thanks very much for hosting, and for the food bank donation. It was a terrific week to join for my first ever Seasons of the Ukulele contribution! And such a friendly group of people and warm welcome - I really shouldn't have been nervous about joining in.

It's just occurred to me that nobody covered David Bowie's song, Life on Mars? As well as a question song, it's also a response to Frank Sinatra's song, Fly Me to the Moon.

Anyway, here's my attempt - I say attempt, as I found it a tricky blighter needing lots more practice.

Nailed it! Edith was indeed the high point here certainly, and well, I sent a lot of strange currency to a food bank and that is why I play. Thank you sir for an incredible season. This one has nailed, for me, what and who we are and I loved every minute of it mate. Was sad to see that clock run out on me. Really, this all boils down to a really good host, and you sir get the prize there. I am awkwardly trying to do the same in my season…and probably failing.
