Singing Sessions

I'm 65 and my singing voice is down to about an octave and my whistler has also been reduced, but I hum, whistle and sing and it's a good thing I live alone! My cat and dog like it because they know how happy I am every time I touch the uke. You should post a video!
Well, keep it up! I’m 22 years older’n you, and I’m still goin’. I also only have an octave and a note, but my whistle is still loud and clear. I wish I had a memory though.

My Eighter again this evening. I did old folk songs again. I played as many waltz time ones as I could find. I really like the 3/4 rhythm. It’s cheerful and happy, and it makes me feel good.

I’m having some trouble with my strumming. It seems to be gittin’ more and more boring. I know that’s a sorta natural thing, but I don’t know how to fix it. I’ll hafta check around.

I feel like that too. Like the rhythm is fine in my head but not when I play!

Like you, I love 3/4 time, and my go-to earn up is in 3/4 but man, I'm really not happy with any of my waltz strums. Very dull. I've watched a couple of videos for suggestions, and I'm just not finding a thing that I can turn into anything.

I'd sure love to hear if anyone has any suggestions! Down down/up down/up is NOT getting it done!

I think maybe it would help to add some different chords in here and there and maybe a few little runs. I’ll work on it, but I’m doin’ something else right now.

Couple of things I try for 3/4 songs:
"Dot" the "down down-up down-up" rhythm: delay the ups to right before the next down, to make it sound brisker.
Play a single note on the first beat of the bar, on either the C or G string. Like a brass band playing "Oom-pah-pah, oom-pah-pah...."

I usually just keep up the Boom-tat-tat, but doctor up the melody. One can also fancy up the tats; like boom - tattattat, boom - boom - tat . . . whatever! It’s yer music, play wid it!

Last night I was playing a banjo, and my book has two or three 3/4 tunes (only). So, as I was playing I was trying different beats like omission of the second beat and tripling the second and third, etc. I had a lotta fun with that part of the session. I think I’ll mess wid it again today.

Ahhh, last six days of the month. Time for ukuleles and song. I’ve had a coupla bad weeks, so it’s time for a bit of fun. I’m gonna work on 3/4 songs and see what I can do with some new strums.

Played some folk tunes with my eighter but just whistled instead of singing. I have some kinda throat tickle tonight.

I also got my harp harness out and played a little harp with it too. I haven’t used the rack for a long time, so I was a bit rusty.

Well, alas, I think my singin’ days are over. I simply don’t have much luck with memorizing the words, and, if I play and try to read the words, I get all mixed up. If I happen to know the words, I’ll sing ‘em.

However, I can still whistle or da-da-da the songs easy-peasy. So I guess that’s what I’m gonna do from now on. When I was a wind instrument player, I never worried about the words and had a peachy-keen time playin’ songs. So that’s the new ol’ me!

Any other ol’ folks out there have my problem?

It’s singin’ time again. The coupla singing sessions were about the same, but I enjoyed them. The chords and melodies were fine, and I did remember some of the words or whistled. I need some new songs though. I’ll hafta look through my books.
