Season 574 – “You Gotta Have Heart”
Greetings, fellow Seasonistas, and welcome to week 574. This week’s theme title borrows a line from the 1955 Broadway musical, Damn Yankees, and pretty much says it all. “You gotta have heart, all you really need is heart.” This week, your song must mention the heart, whether it be broken, skipping a beat, swelling with pride, or otherwise ticking along. The actual word, “heart,” must appear in the song.

I welcome entries from all over this great big blue marble we inhabit! The more the merrier, people! Invite others to join in! The winner will receive a prize that can be shipped internationally with ease--an iron-on patch featuring our beloved four-stringed instrument, suitable for a hat, a gig bag, or a jacket:

The parameters are as follows:

  • The video must be newly recorded for this Season. Rob may submit earlier recordings.
  • The video must say that it is for SOTU 574 – You Gotta Have Heart
  • The ukulele must be prominent. Other instruments are welcome but the uke must be front and center. And visible.
  • Original songs are always welcome. If you do choose to submit an original song, please post the lyrics so we can all read them whilst you croon.
  • Please do not submit the same song that someone else already submitted earlier in the week.
  • Videos must be posted to this thread. But not before midnight tonight, Hawaiian time, in keeping with tradition. (And remember, Season 573 is still in play!)
  • The Season lasts for 8 days, and ends at midnight Hawaiian time on Sunday night, Feb. 19th.
  • There is no limit to the number of videos you can submit.
The playlist link is: Playlist

Please invite other players to join in; the more the merrier.

Most importantly, HAVE FUN.

I'm trying my hardest to come up with something inappropriate :D

Well, one of your favorite words rhymes with it. I hear a new song in the making....

Well, Ila, since you liked last week's mashup, here's one of the first ones I ever wrote. It was for Yacht Rock week, I think, and the focus was on maximum cheesiness. I wanted to do some female Yacht Rock, so I googled it. A search turned up these two suggestions, both over-the-top heartbreak ballads by two top masters of melodrama - Bonnie Tyler and ABBA.

I decided they were basically the same song, so ... you know me well enough by now to guess where this is going ... I spliced them together into a single epic mega-cheese saga of woe.

Here's "It's a Winner-Take-All Heartache".

Working too hard can give you a heart attack-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack.

First thing I thought of, one of the greatest songs ever recorded, from one of the greatest albums. So fun to do!

Big-time Billy Joel fan here - soundtrack of my high school years. I'm "Movin' Out".

I started looking up pig heart recipes, Ila. Then I came across all these other recipes for neck, tongue, giblets, tripe, etc....
After a long research, I am posting this.
Thanks for hosting!
(voice crack alert)

Hahahahahahaha, Voran. This made me laugh out loud.

Here is my take on an early U2 song I had not recorded yet, this is called Two Hearts Beat as One.

Can I do This I Know I Might Regret? It mentions 'a poison that stops the heart' plus it IS about a relationship albeit one I rejected

If it mentions the heart, it is fair game, Voran.

Hello, Ila! Thank you for hosting and with such an all-encompassing theme! This is a bit lame - simply a rehash of the title song for this week - but it's a song I really like. It comes from the 1955 musical, "Damn Yankees." I believe this relates to Baseball, which, I understand is some spin off from that famous British game, Rounders!

Here ya go!

Lyrics

This I know I might regret
Down past the moor and over the water
Through the gates and down below ground
I hand a pale silver coin to the boatman

I won't see you again

You say my words are blades that pierce to the bone
You know you have your own set of vicious hunting knives

This I know I might regret
On to the shore and into the labyrinth
Judge me now three-headed one
He asked me to drink of a dark and dangerous wine

I won't see you again

You say my words are a poison that stops the heart
You know you have your own hemlock and deadly nightshade

I might or might not write a new one titled 'His Poison Heart'. I worry my dark songs involving Greek mythology are getting a little old. They make me feel better though :D
