SOTU 574 -- "You Gotta Have Heart"

Just how many arrangements can one song have.

This is the third time I have done this song. There is something about a father, mother, lovers, glance Adoration in someone's eyes that says more than words ever can.

Like the songbird that has fallen.
Paths are there
For us to follow
This is gospel I believe
Angels are around us flying
Truth and mercy to recieve
Pictures of uncommon nature
Painted by a masters hand
Draw me ever
On life's journey
Rendered thus to understand
As a songbird
That is fallen
Only to regain the sky
From this frozen shadow
Vally lay my weary head
Love is from
No distance calling
Faithful as the rising sun
Warms the bitter heart
And heartache
Till the east of Eden's gone
Clouds of fear
And misconception
Wax and wane as if the moon
So is in a sense forsaken
Till the will of God be known
As a songbird
That is fallen
Only to regain the sky
From this frozen shadow
Valley lay my weary head

"Pieni sydän" (Little Heart, 1939) is a Finnish song by Valto Tynnilä and Tatu Pekkarinen: "Human heart is so little, but also vast and wide. It hides big dreams and the universe of hate and love." Ukulele arrangement by Markus Rantanen.

This one mentions the heart only once, "my heart is doin' loop-the-loop." Recorded in 1941 by Shep Fields New Music. Shep Fields was the leader of the band, but not the singer. If you watch to the end I'll tell you who the original singer was. You've probably heard of him.

Sending Happy Valentines hugs to all of my Seasonista friends around the globe. 💜
Here is my offering of Tennessee Whiskey.
Wonderful vocals and instrumental! TW is among my favorites, which I was fortunate to see Possum perform during one of his last live concerts. Thank you for posting, Ruth!

If Tom Waits sang Charles Bukowski
There's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I'm too tough for him,
I say, stay in there, I'm not going
to let anybody see
you.
there's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I pour whiskey on him and inhale
cigarette smoke
and the whores and the bartenders
and the grocery clerks
never know that
he's
in there.
there's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I'm too tough for him,
I say,
stay down, do you want to mess
me up?
you want to screw up the
works?
you want to blow my book sales in
Europe?
there's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I'm too clever, I only let him out
at night sometimes
when everybody's asleep.
I say, I know that you're there,
so don't be
sad.
then I put him back,
but he's singing a little
in there, I haven't quite let him
die
and we sleep together like
that
with our
secret pact
and it's nice enough to
make a man
weep, but I don't
weep, do
you?

Two hearts are better than one.

Happy Friday from California! We've had some amazing contributions to this Season, but I'm looking forward to seeing more. There are seemingly endless possibilities.

"A brighter face may take my place when we're apart Dear
Another love with a
❤️
heart more bold and free
But in the end fair weather friends may break your
❤️
heart Dear

And if they do, Sweet
❤️
heart, remember me"

REMEMBER ME - Scotty Wiseman 1948

"When I was young my ❤️heart was young then, too."
"That she'll only break my ❤️heart again should I decide to stay."

SNOWBIRD - Gene MacLellan

I probably should have passed this song off to someone with a greater range than I have. It's sure not a good one for me to be singing.
I was lucky enough to be able to spend an evening playing the old Gibson guitar, now owned by his daughter Catherine, that Gene used to write Snowbird, Put Your Hand In The Hand, The Call and other songs covered by people like Anne Murray, Elvis Presley, Lynn Anderson, Loretta Lynn, Joan Baez and Bing Crosby.

Here are Gene and Catherine.
