SOTU 604 - Love & Heartbreak

Hello, yet AGAIN, Arvin ... I shall stop soon; sorry! I wanted to record this outside because it's a beautiful day, but, unfortunately the sometime neighbour from over the road is here and he was banging - he's a very noisy chap - so I retired to the rocking chair in the kitchen. I love this song, so I hope I haven't ruined it too much ... and I have just discovered "reverb," which is a bit scary; either that, or there was an echo coming from the chimney behind me!

So, I started an ukulele club here in Cloverdale. It has been cool- especially the beginners! There are 19 of us all together but most the time there are between 6 and 10 of us at each meeting.
Some cool things I didn’t think of when I got the wild hair to do it were that we have a lot of older folks who are just happy to get out of the house, and the practice a LOT.
Anyway, I talked them into playing for you! I may have said 603 on the video- apologies, I got excited :)
I also cut off Genie- ypu can here her singing though. This was all very unrehearsed and low budget.

World of wonders the whole movie is on YouTube

The BBC have generously blocked it in the UK, but cough Internet Archive seems to be the place to go for these things nowadays. Not that I'm condoning piracy, of course, but taking a sledgehammer to a nut isn't really the best way to solve a problem.

A VPN is a great investment too. That's how I generally access things not currently available where I am. I might have some free or heavily discounted PureVPN memberships to give away if asked. That one seems to be working well for me these days, but there are lots of options out there.

The main male character chews his food 72 times before swallowing, always knows better than his wife.

Apparently the director has no script for the film but he defines the character to the main actors and allows them to ad lib all of the dialogue.

Here is the whole film again with commentary by the director Mike Leigh.

And the archive.org link, for us BBC Licence payers without a VPN. 😁

So so many great songs I could have chosen for this season Arvin, what a great theme. I haven’t had much spare time this week but I managed to get this one done, straight to camera , no frills. It falls into the break up category I guess. This is one of the great pop songs of all time for me. A big hit for The Hollies in 1969, written for the group by Geoff Stephens and Tony Macauley. Sadly this will likely be my only contribution this week, so I’m afraid there’ll be no “I Want To See The Zoo She Said” by MC Keith and DJ Candice Marie. Sorry ‘bout that.

Here's an attempt at an instrumental version of a favorite Beatles tune, "Here, There, and Everywhere." Lyrics below. Thanks.

To lead a better life
I need my love to be here

Here
Making each day of the year
Changing my life with a wave of her hand
Nobody can deny that there's something there

There
Running my hands through her hair
Both of us thinking how good it can be
Someone is speaking, but she doesn't know he's there

I want here everywhere
And if she's beside me I know I need never care
But to love her is to need her

Everywhere
Knowing that love is to share
Each one believing that love never dies
Watching her eyes, and hoping I'm always there

I want her everywhere
And if she's beside me I know I need never care
But to love her is to need her

Everywhere
Knowing that love is to share
Each one believing that love never dies
Watching her eyes and hoping I'm always there

I will be there
And everywhere
Here, there and everywhere

Two Fridays ago, I was hauling around a heavy amplifier until my back suddenly went CRICK. I nearly collapsed in pain and was then flat on my back for a few days, or else hobbling around the flat with walking sticks like Methuselah's apprentice. In the last week, I have slowly recovered thanks to a back brace and sheer grit. It's these incidents that remind us that we are not 24 anymore! 😉

Anyway, I am a lot better now and so I have found a moment to record and edit one of my more light-hearted love songs from FAWM 50/90 '23.

I hope you like my little love story:
