SOTU 604 - Love & Heartbreak

My husband, Ray, and I tried one more song for the seasons this week, 'Let It Be Me'. Every time we do a song together, I learn so much and it is a real challenge. I would like to try this song again, at a later date, with a better lead rhythm, which I realized was almost completely lacking in this version...but my husband and I love to sing together and harmonize when we can...and so it's more about that experience. I am playing my guitarlele for this song.

Phew! This one was also a toughie to get right and took quite a few attempts to get a passing grade from me. As you can quickly tell something happened with my recording and there is a delay between audio and video. Very sorry for that! Not sure what happened or how to fix it, but it was my best attempt and didn't have any more in me!

Friends In Low Places is such a bar room classic. Who doesn't know this banger. As noted in the intro, the Greeks recognized many types of love, among them phileo, or brotherly love (like Philadelphia where my alma mater is). This song is about your buds, chums, pals, friends, comrades, confidants, etc.

The song was written by the Nashville songwriters Bud Lee and Dewayne Blackwell; Lee came up with the title one day when they were having lunch with some of their buddies at a restaurant called Tavern on the Row. When the check came, Lee realized he didn't have any money, and said not to worry because "I have friends in low places. I know the cook." This is a 2020 song by a band called Winnetka Bowling League. For those in other countries, CVS is the name of one of the largest pharmacy chain stores in the U.S.

Has it really been so long? Woof. Thanks for hosting Arvin. Here’s a little more Kinks for your 1st theme.

I had to dip into the back pocket song list, I just couldn’t get what I wanted to do down in time. Ah well, I’m sure there will be other opportunities.

What a fantastic week it's been! I asked a simple prompt and you guys more than delivered. Yes, I'm adding one more, but it felt right for the playlist to end with Desert Pavement's cover of Til Death Do Us Part.

Some highlights for me:

Ila's cover of Lady Gaga's banger, 'Bad Romance.' I now have it starting the playlist cause it just has such good vibes all over it.
Joo's Change. Honestly might be her favorite performance for me.
Wim Van Ommen's double U2 songs were such treats. If you haven't listened to them, you're missing out.
Good_Uke_Boy with the Jake Bugg. You can never go wrong with a Bugg tune.
TCK's ukulele group effort! I would love to see more of them on Seasons when time allows, of course!
UkeInTheHeartofTexas' Bungalow / Cottage 2 parter
The aforementioned Kinks cover of Til Death Do Us Part

And lastly, Sumiko Courtney's The Script cover of The Man Who Can't Be Moved. Her singing and playing moved me. I've actually gone back and listened to it a handful of times since. If there's one video you watch out of all of this, let it be this one.

I really enjoyed listening to each and every one of you. Thank you!

Thanks for hosting and thanks so much for the shout-out! I really appreciate all the encouragement I've gotten from you fine SOTU folks!
