September 29th will mark this years Harvest Moon, also known in many Asian countries as the Mid Autumn Moon Festival. With that in mind I'd like to see and hear you bring songs that celebrate

* The harvest season.
* Anything that mentions or refers to the moon.
* I love collaborations, and so those of you that have the time to collaborate can bring any song you want. subsequent songs should fit theme
* 1st time participants are also welcome to bring any song they want, subsequent songs should fit theme
* Joo's Season 605 will continue running through Sunday, so keep sending songs to Joo!
  • The video must be newly recorded for this Season. Rob may submit earlier recordings.
  • The video should mention SOTU 606 ~ Autumn Moon Festival/Harvest
  • The ukulele should be prominent. Other instruments are welcome as long as we can hear there is a uke in the recording
  • Original songs are definitely welcome. If you do choose to submit an original song, posting lyrics is always a nice touch
  • Videos should be posted to this thread, starting at midnight tonight, Hawaiian time
  • The Season lasts for 8 days, and ends at midnight Hawaiian time on Sunday night, October 1st.
  • There is no limit, so post away and I will do my best to keep up :)

Wishing you all the best,

What about those of us living in the southern hemisphere, where it's spring instead of autumn?

Cracking Idea to Introduce newbies to the site Kev, maybe a free reign as an Introductory song (breaking the Ice) should be applied to every season (y)
Yes, the idea of a "free pass" for newcomers was mentioned a few weeks ago, and it's a good one. Thanks Kevin.

Video of a super moon in finland, and the discussion is about the movement of the moon... is it moving to the right because it is orbiting the earth... or does it just appear to be moving because the earth is spinning to the left on its axis... or is a combination of both movements... what do you think?

Hello, Kev ... and thanks for hosting; it's great to see you around! Actually, your theme reminded me of a walk I took with the dogs one summer evening a long time ago. The corn had been cut and baled but was still lying on the field and there was a harvest moon ... the whole field was golden; it was magical! Anyway, there is nothing particularly "magical" about my offering here. I found this song this morning and thought it was really sweet ...

Thanks for hosting, Kev!!!
Here is an original which I have just posted on 605 too 'cause it fits.

Words here:
The Light Man Song (2015)

Sandy had a miscarriage
Their names were Pete and Josh
Kaile never met his folks
They didn't want to see him
LingLi was crying at the police station
They said it was her fault for dressing up like a slut

Ryan lost his pinky
Someone screwed up the setting
Kim returned the stuff rabbit
She wanted diamonds
Kenny was angry no one gave a s** about his paintings
He used the hippest ideas, you see

Misty could not go out no more
They put a lock on her door
Benny had diabetes
So he needed his insulin
JooJoo's neck was aching
She's been watching too many videos on the ukulele (It's true)

You don't see sunlight
Your eyes have mud and lies
You don't see moonlight
You're shrouded in your self-pity
So open the windows and let the light in!
Let the moon, the stars, the crying, the laughing, the cat
the smoke, the traffic, the singing, the flies, the air,
the night and the light in...

Let the light in!
Let the light in!
Let the light in!
Let the light in!

(i was trying to shake loose my finger muscles at the start....I looked silly doing that so I included it. I use open D tuning here)

EDIT: i saw some mooncakes when i went to the shops today. We eat mooncakes and give them as gifts during Mid Autumn Festival. Traditional ones usually have red or white lotus paste or red bean paste as filling.
The black filling in the cut one is red-bean.

I haven't had much of a chance to get to know you Wendy, so I can't tell if this is a serious question. It's a hundred degrees here today, but I can still imagine the joys of a harvest :) . I'm guessing those of you in the Southern Hemisphere will also be able to see the same moon the rest of us are seeing. Hopefully you can find some material that fits the theme, but if you sincerely are not able, then you can bring one song that has nothing to do with the theme. I would hate to think that someone wanting to participate is unable to do so for any reason. kev

There a lots (and lots!) of old song about the moon, although they are really mostly about what happens in the moonlight. I've learned several such songs since I got into Tin Pan Alley music. So when I heard this one a couple months ago I had to learn it. To me it sounds like a good song for a serial killer movie.
