SOTU 606 ~ Autumn Moon Festival/Harvest ~

A song from the niche sub-genre that I call I Will See You Again When This Certain Thing Happens Songs. Two-part harmony in the chorus, the harmony line sung an octave higher than written because I did it as written before and just wanted to hear how it sounded with high harmony. Only one stanza this time.

here is one that I really like from a musician I really love. Michael Hurley!
I caught the cold but felt like it was a good time to try recording this song with a cold. (I did it yesterday after work)
A quick and dirty take of The Werewolf.
a question- should i be picking harder on the D(bass) string (I am playing a bari here) so that it sounds more obvious? i hardly even picked it.

Also, I think Bobby (Bobjking) will do a fantastic job with this song. He is a Hurley fan way before I had even held an uke in my hands.....I will share my attempt anyway.....
BUT most importantly I wanna share the original here.
EDIT: I just realised I pronounced Risen as RISE-SEN. oh well....

EDIT:
I have requested for AlanDP to play Take A Picture Of The Moon, which he brought us, and so nicely done! Thanks Alan!
May I make some requests here?

Would someone like to try these songs ?

1. Pink Moon by Nick Drake
2. The Werewolf by Michael Hurley
3. Moon Over Alabama
4.
Mr Man In The Moon by Michael Hurley

I prefer to hear other people sing them. :---)

Come forth from the cloud of unknowing and kiss the cheek of the moon... A little bit poetic with a big bit of mysticism thrown in... blessing the continuous stutter of the word being made into flesh... in the begining was the word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The New Jerusalem glowing why tarry all night in the ruin. Resurrection awaits... it is an esoteric mixture of Judaism and Christianity... it is looking through a glass darkly to have a obscure and imperfect vision of a reality. it is a riddle that rings with truth.

Here's another one I'm surprised isn't here yet for the "harvest moon" theme:
"Dancing in the Moonlight" by King Harvest

I did it not so long ago for Val's "supernatural" Season, but it seemed appropriate for a quickly at sunset tonight

Featuring a rousing bird chorus of backup singers, and me attempting to ad lib some lyrics about that.

Hurley's version of Mr. Man In The Moon is actually a cover itself, albeit radically different from the original. It's actually a Patty Loveless tune. She plays it much more straight country whereas Snock does it in a style almost like The Rolling Stones' 'Moonlight Mile'. Both versions are great!
(Moonlight Mile would also be a great one for anyone feeling ambitious!)

oooh I don't think I saw my first video in the playlist, Kev. Post #14, page 1
Looks like you're right Joo! I really enjoyed watching that one, and must have gotten distracted and forgot to add it to the list. It's on there now! Thanks for all the wonderful and creative videos you've shared this week ~

This is one of my favorite old moon songs that I've learned. It has lots of good rhymes in it, so I did both stanzas. I heard this one on one of the old music podcasts I listen to, which are Music From 100 Years Ago and The Shellac Stack, if anyone might be interested.

I deleted my Painting By Chagall video I posted several hours ago...I think no one had seen that yet....:p

Here is an original I wrote in 2015.
I did another quick and dirty take (that's how I do it here!) just now, with my flu voice.
Lyrics in YouTube video.

I've done a few moon songs - here's one for harvest. It follows the lifecycle of a personified plant from seeding to harvest to transformation into a new form. The process is pretty rough on Sir John, but he triumphs in the end.

I don't usually do trad songs - this was fun.

With gratuitous cockatoo flyby in the background, plus cockatoo backup vocals. (And a wallaby - slightly off-camera - sorry.)

A supermoon is a full moon or a new moon that nearly coincides with perigee—the closest that the Moon comes to the Earth in its elliptic orbit—resulting in a slightly larger-than-usual moon... taken in Finland and the song Deep purple which mentions moonlight.

I've heard it said that this upbeat, country-blues number not only made Elvis Presley, but made rock n roll itself. I dunno about that, but it fits the theme for week 606

KENTUCKY WALTZ - Bill Monroe / Kim Hartshorn (2nd verse)

Since this seemed too short, I went to Google to see if antyone had written a 2nd verse and found this one by Kim Hartshorn.
Sorry that I can't seem to figure how to flip the video.
