SOTU 606 ~ Autumn Moon Festival/Harvest ~

I deleted my Painting By Chagall video I posted several hours ago...I think no one had seen that yet....:p

Here is an original I wrote in 2015.
I did another quick and dirty take (that's how I do it here!) just now, with my flu voice.
Lyrics in YouTube video.

Hey Joo, I've been behind all week in listening to, commenting on and getting the videos posted. The last one of yours I saw and commented on before this one is the Werewolf one. Sorry if I missed the other one. I'm going to get caught up today at some point. I think I've got another half dozen or so to get to. Thanks again for all your wonderful videos this week ~

Howdy to everyone who's either contributed this week or has been following the wonderful videos that have been shared so far! I've been posting my comments on the videos rather than here, and my justification (excuse) :) for not commenting more here has been "I'll do it when I get caught up" Well that never happened :) I'm getting close though, and I just wanted to take a moment to thank all of you! I've got a few classes to teach today, but I"ll be continuing to listen and comment on the remaining videos in between classes, and hopefully I'll get caught up by days end! Hope you're all enjoying the fine and brilliant and full Harvest Moon we've had these last few nights, and I hope you all have a great weekend as well! Cheers, kev

Oh Kev i wasn't upset about the fact that no one has seen the one I deleted at all. I wasn't sure about it in the first place and was glad that not many people had seen it, and that you hadn't added it to the playlist- which made it "easier" for me to delete it. No worries!
You've been a thoughtful host. Thank you so much for your warm words of encouragement!

Another moon one for you Kevin, this one from Harry Nilsson.

Like some other songs posted above, I am surprised nobody has added this on to the pile yet. I know that several of the Seasonistas are Nilsson fans.

I wanted to get one last song in. Several weeks ago, I talked a little about a man named Wendell Hall. This was one of his most popular songs, selling more than a quarter million copies of sheet music. Two-part harmony in the chorus. Someone who is a collector of Wendell Hall memorabilia noticed that I had covered several of his songs on youtube and we had an email exchange. He said that Hall wrote harmony parts for many of his songs because he was trying to get singers to duet with themselves on their recordings. Of course, back in the 1920s this was quite difficult due to technical limitations of recording equipment, but it was not entirely unheard of. They had to make one recording and then set up a record player and play it into the recording horn while the singer sang the other part at the same time, thus making a new recording. If the volume was a little too low or high on the record player they would have to tweak the volume and try again. It was kind of a painstaking process, so it didn't happen very often. The harmony is a little tricky on this because it jumps back and forth between being above the melody and below the melody.

Hi Kevin! 😊
I’ve been wanting to learn this one for quite awhile now and this week’s theme gave me the nudge to finally do it. Here is a cover of Jon’s song, Candle, which mentions the moon in the line: “the sun wakes up beside the moon dozing behind the sill.”
Thanks so much and I hope you all have a great weekend. ✨🎶❤️

This is a mid-'80s song by the Australian band Flash and the Pan. At today's Seasonista open mic, YorkSteve was the only one who remembered the band. (And during that performance, the volume knob on my Kawika broke, so I did the video on the Fluke.)

!!!!!!! guitalele tuned down to boom out the flu!

I think i got some friends thinking i wrote those words below. I did not. Those were (caukulele) Denise's intro when she posted Summer's End on the John Prine contest. Sorry for the misunderstanding. :--)

I love collaborations, and so those of you that have the time to collaborate can bring any song you want.
Here is a Jolly and Joo Collab!
Robert @ukukeguy
has very kindly agreed to read a picture book I made in 2010.
He did an absolutely marvelous job reading the story, I think he made the story come to life.
I played some simple picking over.
Thanks so much for the week, Kev!

OLDER VERSION of this video HERE. (that is the one where Kev and a few people have kindly commented on)

EDIT: I have made a better version of this video, with credits at the end. Here is the FINAL version for those who are interested.

I'm almost caught up! Over 70 videos and counting! I see we finally got a cover of Bad Moon Rising on the playlist. I guess the song I'm most surprised we didn't hear this week is Moondance by Van Morrison.

I'll take some time to say more once the season officially ends, but I definitely want to extend heartfelt thanks for all of your contributions. I haven't made the time lately to regularly participate, and hosting has been a great way to see and hear so many wonderful folks this week including a lot of new faces to me!

A good friend of mine has come across a few my SOTU vids on YT and today was our first time meeting up since... so naturally, I coerced him into becoming a full fledged Seasonista. I gave him the theme(s*), played a two chord backer and let him freestyle the rest. We entitled it, 'A Moon Wish for Seven Generations.'

Welcome my buddy, Alvin, to the Seasons!

(*) we took the rare freestyle Sunday opportunity to meet the criteria of both Seasons 606 and 607 😏 (I'll try to transcribe the lyrics soon).

HOW TO WRITE A SONG ABOUT THE MOON - Paul Simon 1981

It was such a lovely day here in Port Hope, that a few friends got together for a jam in my friend Ted's back yard this afternoon. One of the guys asked me what the Season topic was this week and when I told them, Ted suggested this one. I had never heard it before, but I came home and started working on it . It's far from perfect yet, but I've gotta get to bed, so this'll have to do.

Thanks again Kev!

In case you didn't notice, I found my glasses.

With less than an hour and a half to go for this Season, I went hunting through the unrealBook playlists I'd assembled for both 606 and 607 for a song I knew well enough to do quickly that fits both themes. Turns out Peter Rowan's "Midnight Moonlight" contains the line "with no hope for tomorrow". So here's my last-minute recorded-in-the-moonlight twofer.
