Personally I'm torn between two different kinds. On my Kamakas, I really love their stock nylon black strings. And on my KoAloha, personally I don't think you can do any better than their own strings. The warmness of the black Kamaka nylons, paired with the powerful fluorocarbons from KoAloha, I don't think I'd use any other strings going forward. I've tried a few different kinds, but I keep coming back. Special mention to Worth, as they are the new de facto for Kanile'a, which are great also, but I haven't had much use from them yet.

It’s so subjective. I was all-Worth Brown Medium, all the time, for awhile. Then I fell for Magic Tin Man strings from CDS. @EDW here was kind enough to send a pack of soprano AG X AQ strings my way (nylon and I had never gotten along), but they rock on my Fluke concert. (I’m also Team Re-entrant.)
I remain most fond of lighter gauge fluoros, but each uke really is different. I notice those differences as I get older and my playing style changes.

Since I have more than one ukulele I have more than one preferred type of strings: The Tin Man's Magic Ukulele Strings are wonderfully clear and chiming on my laminate Kiwaya soprano, while my Ken Timms solid mahogany soprano is currently strung with Ernie Ball black nylon and is a joy to play, with a much more vintage tone. Yesterday I put a set of Rotosound Nylgut on my Uma Baby T tenor, which is a concert-bodied laminate, and they're settling in nicely, reducing the rather high and thin sound which I though the supplied strings amplified. Rotosounds have also been a good match for my soprano Flea. I really like playing gut strings, but they're too expensive and temperamental for me these days. Fabulous tone, though.

So really, I think it's always going to be a bit of a mix, since I look for different things from different instruments.

I’m currently rocking Fremont Blacklines on my sopranos. Ask me next week, I’ll tell you what my favourite is then 😃

My taste in strings has evolved over time. My first decent uke had Aquila which I loved and when I put some titaniums on I quickly switched back. Then I started to love KoAloha ukes and they for sure shine with fluorocarbon. So now I think that different ukes need different strings, and if I like a specific uke I would not want to mess with strings. Though my original uke now has a set of LaBella Nylon strings and I am also quite happy with that. I am curious how I will like Kanile'a with fluorocarbon strings. I loved playing them years ago and was sure that the Aquila strings contributed a lot to that. I will try to visit Oahu this winter and go to the Ala Moana store to see if I still like them with different strings.

I love Aquila Lava strings, high g and low G for their deep, rich tone. I also like the Aquila Bionylon strings. D'Addario black nylons are great as well. I don't care for the sound of bright and snappy strings, or the feel of stiff, hard strings, so definitely no fluorocarbon strings for me.

Depends on the ukulele, but overall my favorite is Living Water.

D'Addario Pro-Arte clear nylon
La Bella 908 guitar D string (for use as an ukulele low-G string)

These are a few of my favorite strings: D'Addario, LaBella, and Savarez.

Aquila and Martin are used mostly for experimenting and troubleshooting.

Any fluorocarbon.

I like Worths mostly... browns on my mahogany baritone and clears on most of the rest... but not always!

But: I put a Worth Otha signature set with a drop g on my Pono AT-CR and didn't like that at all! I replaced the g with a G from a GHS black set and it's fine now. But my favorite set I've ever had on that Pono were the La Bella baby baritones. I might go back to those soon I liked them so much! But: Then it's a baritone, not a tenor... I'm going back to the Clears again next time I order.

I've tried just about every one of the Aquilas but they always seem to snap in the case. I've had this happen with Lavas, Sugars, ACxAQs, Bionylons, and Reds. It seems these strings object to being overlooked and left un-played. It's happened every single time with every set I've bought (Not the Nylguts, though)... This provides simply too much drama for my taste... these strings are all so needy. I hate the negative anticipation: getting ready to open a case and waiting to see a snapped string. I've never had this happen with any other brand. Loosen them up before storage? No thanks... Too high maintenance for me!

Depends on the ukulele, but overall my favorite is Living Water.

I would like to try these, but the last two times I tried to order some they were out of stock... which means ordering direct from England. If I do that, the shipping costs more than the strings! Plus the conversion rate and import duty... If anyone knows where to buy these in the US let me know... they are next on my list to try!

I was just about to order some strings actually... I saw that Kala has a number of Aquilas on their Black Friday sale, but the discount is only around 10%. And it takes a $150 purchase to get free shipping... I don't own THAT many ukuleles!

Time to see what Strings By Mail has to offer I guess...

Living Water strings are available from Uke Republic.

I typically keep stock strings on higher end ukes- Koaloha, Rebel... I trust that those guys know what they are doing. For others, like Kala and Ohana, either plain ol' Martin M600 or Oasis 8100...both cheap. I got some others (Uke logic, Worth) stashed, but just haven't gotten around to trying them.

I sure hate to hear this. Being fairly new and already trying several different brands, I had 2 of the Aquila turned Martin 625's snap while I was putting them on a Martin. I figured 1 snap and it was user error, but 2 was the product. Matt at Strings By Mail read my review and sent me another set that haven't worked their way back into the rotation yet. AND I just ordered Aquila Reds, hoping they would maybe be an improved version. The Reds haven't even been received yet. Oh well....

Magic Tin Man strings are a custom gauge set of Worth clear curated by the Tin Man .
Don't know which tension or any other details .
