I'm looking for a spruce top, acacia back/sides tenor. I sold my Pono because I didn't like the neck. What would you recommend I consider up to $500? I know, I know - "it's subjective", "try before you buy" - I get it. Play along anyway! ;) Thanks!

How about a spruce /koa tenor made in Hawaii for $475?
I bought #225 from a UU member 5 years ago and still use it as my workhorse uke. I don't think it is custom made as some state though.

Sounds like the Ohana 250G, https://ohana-music.com/products/limited-edition-250g-series?_pos=38&_sid=429378f72&_ss=r

Mim's has them for under $400,

I’ll check it out. Thanks.

That one is on my radar. Thanks!

My vote would be for a Flight Victoria tenor. Super instrument and very reasonable price
