Song Help Request Jazz version of twinkle twinkle little star

Hi all,

I'm trying to learn this song from Aaron at HMS: http://youtu.be/6cQbxwbBqqI

At 2:47 into the video Aaron does a strum where he plucks down on the 4th string with his thumb, then sequentially up on the 3rd, 2nd and 1st using his index, middle and ring fingers.

I can't figure this strum out. The closest I've been able to recreate the sound is by plucking the 4th string, then momentarily sliding my 3 fingers up the 3 strings, then pulling upward all together to pluck each one in succession.

Any tips or suggestions or better yet, videos on how to do this strum?

Looks to me like thumb G, then index C, middle E, ring A. (Sort of arpeggio.)

Hi Jerry,

I've tried to demonstrate in a short video how Aaron plays the thumb & 3 finger roll.
If you practice using the thumb 4th string, index 3rd string, middle 2nd string & ring 1st string in a sequential pattern, slowly at first and then build up speed as you become more comfortable.
For the chord, the strings are played in a plucking movement, thumb, index, middle & ring. There needs to be only slight separation between the individual notes or strings. Try to achieve a rolling action. This technique will require some practice but it's definitely worth the effort. Good luck.

That's excellent Campbell - thank you. I've been working on that for what now seems like months. Each roll I do is either too fast or too slow. I'll keep practicing, but you make it look easy! thanks again.
