I have a Kanile'a concert which has Living Water strings, which I love. I decided to try low G tuning but after a few weeks the string is just not settling in. It doesn't stay in tune and just doesn't sound right.

I noticed that the string is sitting high at the nut. Is it likely that this is the problem? Should I widen the slot in the nut to accommodate the string? Would the wider slot cause buzzing or other problems if I go back to a standard G?

I'm no expert but it can't be good. If nothing else the action on that string will be higher. Suggest a wound low G string to see if you like low G without hindering the switch back to high G if needed.

You will probably need to wide the nut slot. That may or may not be a problem if you go back to high g. As you've noted though, the current, narrow slot, is already a problem for you.
