The current issue (April-May 2022) of Smithsonian Magazine has an excellent, lengthy article about the history of the legendary "The Tree", an old-growth mahogany tree cut in 1965 in Belize (then British Honduras). Timber from "The Tree" has been a coveted, beautifully-figured wood used in lutherie, both for acoustic guitars and ukuleles.
